While out riding my 98 TBS tonight the "knob" on my shift lever fell off making it difficult to shift, although not impossible. Is this a standard piece I could get at any local dealer or do I have to get it from a Triumph shop?

The part is threaded and the rubber on it replaceable. The Gearchange Pin should be #T2080282 and the rubber is #T2080281. It's possible that it unthreaded but you should look into the hole and see if the threads are still there. If you have a thread gauge you can get the pitch. Use calipers to measure the bolt thickness and length of the threaded area.

Standard? You'll have to hit a few shops and see if they have anything that comes close to your measurements. It will be metric.

This is the first time I have heard of anyone's knob falling off whilst riding a Triumph. Scary..
