my 96 t-bird has lost the lights on the tach and speedo.
Also not functioning is the tail light. The brake light comes on, but only with the foot brake lever.

All fuses seem to be functioning. I could find no ground up in the head light assembly. Anybody with similar experience ?

Check/replace the bulbs first to determine if it's something simple.

Then we can start looking at the wiring if necessary.

seems unlikely its the bulbs but pull one and check / replace anyway to be sure, then check the fuses. If you are stil having problems its likely to be dwon to the wiring inside the headlamp pod - you'd need to get in there and check the connectors for water ingres / corrosion. You should also check the grounding point below the tank - left hand side - unscrew it clean it and refit with dielelctric grease. If none of this fixes it you likely have a problem with a broken wire, faulty connector or even the ignition switch itself all of which will need you to probe around with a meter or test lamp to find out where the open circuit lies.

Thanks for the tips

It was not the bulbs.
I traced the problem to a loose connection up in the headlight housing.
The brake light problem was a bad switch under the brake lever.

Does anybody have a wiring schematic that can be posted ?

Get a Haynes manual. They are only about 12 bucks. You won't regret it.

All good in the headlight assembly, but problem persists. I think that I have found the problem, but would be interested in what you all think:

I've been having some electrical problems and have been tracing wires, etc.

Problem has been when putting in the key, sometimes there are no speedo or tach lights or any lights. Absolutely no power to anything, including starter button.

When the lights do come on, the bike starts right up.

Seemed to correct itself when cooled, but also when I'd "jiggle" wires in and around the battery/fusebox area.

Anyway, it was acting up again, so I started getting specific with my jiggling around the battery/fusebox area and "jiggled" what appears to be called the "indicator relay" at least judging by the colored wires attached and the wiring diagram in the manual.

It is a box with three leads and is mounted to the outside of the fusebox. One of the leads from this box has some "bluing".

Could the indicator relay cause the problem that I've been having? Does it sound like just a bad/loose connection or could the relay be fried?

Any input is much appreciated.
