I was glad to find this discussion , we had one come into the shop
and after pulling the sprocket cover I thought that it could be accessed through the oil pan, called the nearest Tri. dealer to talk about it and was told that the engine had to be pulled. I just about turned the job away but thought I would look on RAT net.
Good news and I can now take the job on. Now I just wanted to let everyone know that an after- market folding lever for a Honda XR70 fits the spline perfectly.

Hi Bill,

Do you know where these after-market levers can be bought?

I found this ONE.

The vendor confirmed that the length of the above lever is 5.5 inches from the center of the splines to the tip. That's the same length of the Triumph lever.

It looks like the folding lever's tip has little to no offset from the shift shaft. The stock Triumph lever has about an inch of offset.

Trumpnut, do you happen to know of a lever with offset?

hmmm. when I look at that link the lever in the picture looks to me like it has an offset - bend is in the middle of the shaft as opposed to the spline end

I sent the vendor a picture of a Legend's shift lever. He will take a look at it and let me know if the aftermarket offset is similiar.

Looking at the shadow, it does appear to have an offset. Looks like nice quality too for the money. I sent them a email to see if they will ship to the UK.

This looks very promising! If the offset is a hair smaller, it will only add additional protection. If it doesn't fit, I can always eat the shipping costs and return it.

Here's the conversation I had with Glenn at Republic Cycle:

What is the total length of your Honda XR50/CRF50/XR70 TWO BROS.
Extended Shift Lever from the center of the spline hole to the end of
the lever?

>>>5.5 inches from center of spline opening to end.

I have one more question. Does the Two Bros lever have any offset from
the shiftshaft to the tip? I'm looking for a lever shaped like the
attached picture.

>>>Yes, there is OFFSET in the lever, looks to be nearly 1" worth.
>>>Does not look to be offset as much as the picture you sent, but its close.

with all this in mind...
I was thinking of maybe taking a hacksaw or something, and making slight score somewhere around the circumfrence of my gearshift lever... Not deep enough to cause weakness during normal use, but enough to allow a breaking point- if and/or when my bike "falls" down...
whattaya think?

Saw a picture of something like that on another forum. They took almost half the material off. This thing is seriously over engineered.
