going much beyond #100/105 Mains will cause your bike to have a flat spot in the power band from about 4200 rpm to 6500 rpm-the mid-range that these bikes were specifically tuned for. And probably where you do most of your riding.

What is ment as a "flat spot"?
What does it feel like?
What does is sound like?

Thanks, David :???:

Torque and power do not increase in a flat spot...on a graph it would look like a flat spot.....

Hi, Take a look under the "Downloads" section of this site; Open "Technical Aids & Info" and then open "Classic Triumph Tuning". There is a wealth of info from those who have boldly gone before us. This is a well researched paper on successful performance mods to the T3 model line.
Thanks, but some of it is a bit outdated. I've been too busy to work on it.

A flat spot is a dip in the torque curve where the horsepower either doesn't increase (goes flat) or doesn't increase at the same rate it had been previously increasing.

You only feel flat spots on acceleration. The bike pulls well and then pulls less well in the flat spot. It's basically a change in the rate of acceleration.

You usually can't here any difference unless the engine goes extremely lean or rich.
