Anybody know where I might find a new/taller windscreen for my Adventurer ? I wish mine was about an inch or two taller . The factory screen is OK for short cruises, but on longer ones the buffeting that I experience really is a fatigue factor that I'd just as soon do without . Using earplugs helps, as does a full-face helmet, but I'd consider a mod if one can be had. Any thoughts ?
Much obliged !

There have been a few threads on wind screens lately.

One said something about a strip of some sort that you can add to your screen and helps deflect the wind up.

I'm sure someone will know about it.

Hi arnold,

There is a product called "stealth edging" that I am planning to try out. The manufacturer is currently out of stock as they have updated the product. New material is supposed to be in on or around 5-20 and they promised to send me an email when it arrives.

There is also an extension that can be added called the "laminar lip". I have read some good things about the performance of these but IMHO they are pretty ugly -- I am not even sure I will like the black strip that stealth edging would add.

I am also looking at a smaller screen to see if I can take enough wind off my body without the buffeting I get around the helmet with the roadster screen.

Out of curiosity, How tall are you? It seems that the people who like the roadster screen best are either 5'10 or less or around 6'2". I am 5'11" and I am beginning to think this is exactly the wrong height for the roadster screen to be comfortable.

National Cycle has many styles and sizes to fit your Adventurer. I just ordered an F15 for my 98.

I don't remember the link, but just do a search for them and you will find them. Prices seem to be very reasonable.

Hey Nailer guy,

Just put an F15 on my 96 Adventurer. I only got a brief ride today but I think it might work. I will be going out in a bit to test it out with the full face helmet. With the shorty, I am back to catching too much wind under the rim of the helmet -- feels like it's going to rip my head off at 65mph.

With the full face I will check for buffeting at 75-80 and let everyone know how it goes. I will be interested to hear of your thoughts as well.

I think I might still try the edging on the roadster screen too to see if it allows the shorty without slapping my head around.

Quick first impression............

Does cut the wind from the body a bit and the bike feels much more stable than with the Roadster screen but, over 70mph gets a bit tiring because the wind catches my shoulders and pushes back pretty hard. Of course this is after only about 50 miles and I have only tried a couple of adjustments thus far. I think I like it better than the roadster but won't really know until I work with it more and do a few days of commuting.

Anyway, my first impression is that I will be commuting at the legal (65mph) rather than the implied (80mph) speed limit.

I will post some pictures of the bike with the F15 later today (in my album) for anyone interested in taking a look.

Ken

Just checked your album, no photos yet!

Am interested to see how the F15 looks on your new girl and your opinions of it.

Yeah, I got a little tied up yesterday. They are up there now and you can view them Here

I think I will still try the edging and see which is better at (what I consider) a reasonable highway speed.

I do like the way she looks with the F15, very sweet.

So, you will try the edging with this screen?

Is it (screen) fairly straightforward to install?

BTW, I saw an Adventurer on Ebay.co.uk where the owner had bought a sissy bar/rack combo from a catalog here and modified it to fit the bike. If you want to look at it the item # on www.ebay.co.uk is 2477357927.

Ride safe

Bob :-D

I am planning on trying the edging on the roadster screen after some more adjustment on the F15.

The F15 is easy to assemble to the bike but they provide zero assistance on how it should be positioned or what the expected effect of different setups. As I have never used a screen like this, I believe it is going to take a lot of trial and error before I can decide how well it works overall.

IMO thus far, the roadster screen provides more protection but also seems to push the air. The sportier F15 seems to be much more aerodynamic and redirect the wind-flow but, being smaller much more of your body is still out in the wind.

With the weather and other demands for the next two weeks, it is unlikely I will have a lot of time to mess with this for a while but, once I do I will post more info on my thoughts and experiences. In the interim, any guidance that can be offered by those using an F15 on an Adventurer (or other classic) is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the Ebay link. I am not sure I would trust much weight on that luggage rack but the sissy bar could be of great benefit for timid passengers (such as my wife). I am also wondering what the screen is. It appears to be aftermarket and perhaps a bit larger than the roadster.
