Coming back from Daytona. My temp light flickered then stayed on at a red light, fan came on, did not go off til I got moving, about 400 or 500 feet.
pulled the gas tank, checked the radiator it was full of water.
the resivor tank is low about 1" below min.
I don't think it has anything to do with water level. I don't know.
I road it all last summer it didn't get hot, the fan came on a few times then went off, I don't think the temp light came on.
On this trip it was in the 80 I don't think the fan should have come on. it didn't feel to hot. while going slow about 15 to 20 mpr it felt like more heat than usal

any ideas thanks, Ron

There have been many posts on this subject, and I'm sure you will get some good advice on it.

My advice:
My 2K-TBS will do the same thing in city traffic on a HOT Memphis day.
I think that the sending unit trip point for the fan and the temp light are very close. My fan has never failed to turn on just after the temp light has started to flicker on.
I have just under 22K miles on the bike and have never had it overheat.
I wouldn't worry about it unless your fan fails to come on and cool it down.

1" below minimum is normal on my bike- I think the max-min marks are misleading.

If your fan came on just after the light it seems like everything is working as it should.

My '01 T-bird did the same thing. Apparently it's a well known electrical issue that makes the warning light over-sensitive in some instances. As I understand it, the bike is not overheating. However, just to ease my worried mind, I took the step of adding a product called "Water Wetter" to my coolant and it has so far eliminated the problem. Supposedly Water Wetter will make your coolant 5-10 degrees (f) cooler.

Speaking of engine temperature... has anyone fitted a gauge on their bike (T300 specifically)? I've never had a problem, but with the thermostat being 12 years old and a "new used" radiator, I'm concerned with the actual running temp.

Anyone have any experience with this?
