sorry, more questions! Listed on the items the previous owner "added" to the bike i just bought was an Advanced Ignition Rotor. What is this? Is it really an option? I know what a typical rotor is, but not sure of what this does(better).
Also, does my 1999 Adventurer have "electronic ignition"? Please tell me it still doesn't have points and condenser!

I called a couple dealers trying to determine if the centerstand for any other model would fit on my bike- neither one knew for sure. I thought it would be a simple case of cross referencing part numbers. They suggested I contact Triumph directly. Before I do that, i figured a dealer in the UK would possibly know this. I emailed www.onyertriumph.net/ this question. I will post what I find out- if they reply...

thanks in "advance"

PS... I did read the earlier posts about centerstands- I am pretty sure the frame changed in 1999- so the T-Bird centerstand prolly would not match up.

Your bike doesnt have points but it has a crank position sensing arrangement, part of which is a rotor, there are replacements with 4 or 5 degrees of advance, this sounds like what is fitted to your bike.

The frames did not change in any substantial way, the rear subframes however did change. The centerstand is not mounted to the rear suframe or affected by its shape in any way.

In this case, the ignition rotor is the component that determines the precise time, with relation to crankshaft position, that the spark plugs fire. This timing is not adjustable in the same sense that the static ignition timing on most automotive engines is adjustable. The rotor either has to be modified somehow or replaced with one that has been manufactured with, typically, 4 to 6 degrees of advance built in. An advanced rotor will have the same effect as rotating the distributor on an automotive engine to advance the ignition timing. I have not had my T-Bird long enough to explore this on it but I have put a 5 degree advance rotor on my Concours. I believe it is slightly stronger in the mid-range now but I'm certainly willing to admit that it may simply be a "placebo effect" since I have no before/after performance data. In most cases, higher octane fuel is recommended after this mod.

As to the center stand, all I know is that Great Bay's website sells several Triumph stands but none that are listed as fitting the Adventurer. In fact, the one for the Thunderbird states that it will NOT fit '99 model Adventurers. As with the specifics of the 885 Triple's ignition, I'm sure that others on this board will be along shortly who know vast amounts more about this than I do. Assuming they haven't already answered while I was typing this lengthy reply.

The change point for the centerstands was VIN 71698. All bikes later than that will not take the Thunderbird centerstand, and no specific stand was produced for the bike after that point.

A new rear subframe was introduced for the 1999 model year and the key lock was deleted from the seat, but I can see no changes in the advertised specs that would result in the centerstand not fitting the later bike.

There must have been a change to wheels/tires or exhaust headers at VIN 71698 which would have resulted in the stand either not being tall enough (or too tall) or it fouling on something, without the bikes to compare or the fiche to check parts I can only speculate further.

Chances are you would be able to modify the TBird one to fit and work as is the case with the 2000 on Thunderbird Sport, but it would be a case of just trying it and seeing what happens. It could be that other Adventurer owners have already tried.

I would not expect any help from Triumph over this, and would also think you would be unlikely to get much help from dealers either. The reason: liability, they will not put themselves in the position of telling you to fit a part to you bike that they did not design for it, let alone tell you how to modify it to fit.

As always, it is so great to get replies and answers to my questions on here. Thanks guys!
Guess I will just look for one of those "lifts" that ya stick under the bike to perform routine maintenance. Adding a center-stand to this bike would look ugly anyway...IMHO
