I am having some trouble with the seat mounts for my 2000 Legend. They do not line up and it is impossible to put both screws in so I've been riding with only one. I saw where someone suggested thumb screws to remedy the problem. What are those and where can I get them?

Responses are greatly appreciated.

Phil

Phil:

I’m using seat bolts from newbonneville.com:

http://www.newbonneville.com/html/to...eat_bolts.html

Do a search and you’ll find lots of other solutions and commentary on this issue.

Also, I’ve notice the following – when reinstalling my seat it helps me to lean down on the end of the seat somewhat. A little compression is necessary to get the holes in the steel tabs on the seat to align with the holes at the ends of the frame tubes. And I’ve noticed that since the frame tubes are not parallel (on my T-Bird), inserting the seat bolts is somewhat non-intuitive due to the funky angle.

Good advice from Dave. I also have the newbonneville.com thumb bolts, and they work pretty well. If, even with putting pressure on the seat you still have trouble lining it up you can take out one or both of the rubber grommets in the seat to give you a bigger hole to target the bolt into. If you do that, tho, remember that the thumb bolts are aluminum, so they can get stripped a bit if the seat moves around, so set them very tight (hand tighten only!) NewBonneville also sells nice matching hand turned bolts for both side panels, which I also find helpful. The package is a bit pricey, but they give you a discount for buying the two sets (seat and side panel) together.

There are other ways I have tried and they work, sort of, but I find the bolts from Newbonneville the least aggrevating. As Dave said, there are a few long threads on this topic. Search for "seat bolts" or "seat" on this forum and you will find them.

Take care,

Monte

You fellows using the thumb type or the allen head seat bolts from newbonneville?

A different supplier specs shorter seat bolts than the Bonne.

I'm using the thumb screw type. I'm ambivalent about the bolts, while they make getting under the seat easier, they look funky sticking out from under the seat. They’re aluminum – if they are not aligned properly you’ll strip the threads.

Frankly I’d like to see Triumph offer a key access retro fit for the T-Bird.

Amen to that! The Thumb bolts are a whole lot better than nothing, but are still a pain, especially with the back rest/sissy bar/luggage rack installed, like on my Tbird.

I seemed to recall that the newbonneville extended bolts are stainless. That might be a less obtrusive and sounder solution, but I am sceptable whether there will still be room enough to fit the wrench with the extended bolt.

The dealer partially stripped the treads on one of the nuts in the frame, so stripping an aluminum bolt would be a savior vs the frame mount.

Skyking products makes a "quick release" mechanism for the Legend: http://skykingproducts.com/Merchant2...ode=Item-003-1
I haven't gotten around to getting a set yet, because I'm pretty lazy, but every time I have to remove the stupid seat I get a little more motivation to order them.

My Thumb bolts from newbonneville are aluminum, anodized black. Ditto on the hand turned side panel bolts, which I bought as a "set" with the seat bolts, for a small discount. Still pricey. Whether or not they have stainless, I just don't know.
