How can I get the best sound out of my 2000 Thunderbird. If the answer is the Triumph aftermarket pipes, is the sound enough to warrant the price?

I have the after-market pipes on my T-Bird. Great sound - at least to other motorcyclists. But I don't start the bike up in the driveway when I'm on my way to work in the morning any more - too loud. To maintain relations with the neighbors I coast to the end of the street before firing it up.

Only you can justify the cost. I'm glad I did my pipes (and the shop did some tuning to match). I believe I can feel more mid-range power. Still have that little low spot right at 28000 rpm's, but it is much less noticeable.

Any slip-on muffler with a 1 1/2" inlet will fit. The one's I have on my bike now are a no-name brand, but happen to mount to the original exhaust brackets and sound great! Not too annoying at idle, but you get a good dose of that triple sound while riding..

The Triumph pipes look good, sound good, and they are top quality. I'm not sure they are worth the asking price- but mine were already on the bike when I bought it.

You can get very similar looking pipes for about a third of the price. Look at the the suppliers who sell parts for old Brit bikes. The quality may not be as good.

I'd totally agree with Slinky - I picked up a brand new set of triumph off-road pipes on ebay for 225GBP - worth every penny!

I just have to find someone I trust enough to take my bike for a spin so that I can hear what they sound like from kerbside.

Thanks for your responses. I am leaning toward the Triumph aftermarket off road pipes
