Hello,

I'm a new member here at Triumphrat. I live in Germany so excuse my bad english.

I bought a 2001 Triumph Adventurer 2 weeks ago at a BMW dealer (5350 €) and thought that I have mede a good deal. I really like this bike and was wondering that a local Triumph dealer told me that I have mede a big mistake. He told me that this byke is unsellable (is this the right word?) and when he had these bikes in his store they were standing there like lead. Obviously German biker tend more to real chpper or cruser or real sport bykes. The Adventurer seems to be a mix, not really a chopper and no sport bike. Furthermore it is not a traditional Triumph with 2 cylinders which is also liked in Germany.

What do you in the US or in GB think about this bike?

However I like this bike and the Triumph dealer can tell me what he want. (Perhaps he was mopes cause I did not buy a bike from him) The only thing which could be better is the sound. With the original exhaust it sounds not like a real Triumph. The slash cuts are not longer available at Triumph so has anyone an idea what I can do?

Thanks for info

Hey Enquerer, welcome.

You have a great bike there, don't listen to that fool.. :-D

There are plenty of silencers from old Brit bikes that could be made to work. Or you could do some surgery on your stock ones.

Here is a German website you may get some more ideas there.

Welcome!

I wouldn't worry about the dealer's opinions. We (a bunch of friends) were talking about the slow sales of the Adventurers and to some degree the TBs over the last few years and the only thing anyone could come up with was that it was due to the big surge in H-D mania.

Besides, by owning such a distinctive and relatively rare machine, you won't see yourself coming and going every five minutes!

Enjoy!

Glad you joined us enquerer

Congratulations on now owning a great bike, no matter what that jealous dealer said.

You can find silencers on Ebay sometimes. There is a pair of slash cuts on www.ebay.co.uk, item number 7900746416.
However this seller says he only ships to the UK, but not all of them are like that.

Ride safe, enjoy, and good luck

Bob

I concur with the Brother from Pennsylvainia. Your's my Kraut friend, is distintive. Way out here in the American out back Triumphs are a rare breed as the majority of bikers are weekend Harley Warriors.Wherever I go on my T-Bird people always stop to look at it and say,"I didn't know that Triumph was still around". Damm near every Harley owner has a story about the Triumph he had years ago. After you wipe out a few Sporsters you will truly feel Pride of Ownership. Good luck pardner and ride like HELL!

Hallo und begrüßen Sie. Sie traf eine gute wahl vom motorrad!

Any of the Triumph classic three cylinder machines are good bikes - so do not worry what the dealer thinks.

Here is a link to a German web-site about the Thunderbird Sport - but much of the information will also apply to the Adventurer. http://www.medir.de/start.htm

There is a British web-site which should be able to help with louder exhausts if you want to improve the sound of your bike: http://www.sprintmanufacturing.co.uk/

Enjoy your new machine

Tschüs!

Welcome aboard enquerer! It is a great bike no matter what that yutz says.

As to slash-cuts, I had no problem finding new ones here in the US -- the Triumph ones are pricey but I am glad I dropped the money on them.

Of course the other option is to drill out the restricters on the originals. I can't remember exactly where but there are nice photos and instructions on this site.

Safe Rides

Hi Enquerer,

Welcome. Your Adventurer has many similarities to the Thunderbird and Legend, so you have many options for spares and alternative extras. The bikes are modular, and when you tire of the Classics, there are a few (performance) options from the other T300 series bikes to explore.

This is a company in Germany I have purchased a couple of things from, that you may like their link?:
sbf-motorraeder (triumph-bikes-parts)

If the local Triumph dealer has a number of these bikes left, there are alot of riders missing out on a great bike experience. I'm sure you will enjoy your Adventurer.

There is another Forum I visit, and they have a Section for Adventurer owners, and is also good for help when needed. There maybe some useful information in their history, and it may be interesting to ask about the Slash Cuts there as well:

When I was shopping for a Thunderbird Sport a dealer told me "you wouldn't like that bike". (He didn't have one and couldn't get one). So, I went to a dealer who had one and they were very accomodating. If you like the bike, then it's a great bike! You only have to please yourself.

Most Triumph-manufactured aftermarket accessories are no longer available; but you will be able to get parts.

Like others have suggested, there are solutions for pipes and some accessories.

If you like the bike, that is what counts. I bought mine new in 99 and haven't looked back!
