Just got a new set of Triumph low handle bars, but they don't have the anything on the inside to screw in my old bar ends. Seems like the hold ones have it welded in and now my handle bars look a little crappy. Does anyone have any suggestions beside using the crappy ones you see on the rice rockets?

Yep, buy some cheapo universal barends with the expanding rubber mounts, a couple of longer bolts, and use the original barends. Easy Peasy.

I used big round nuts meant for wood. They where a perfect match inside the bar, and I just made some spot welds to make them stuck.
Hard to describe, I'll take some pics tomorrow. Time to go to sleep here now :-)

Put bar end mirrors on, they will look good with the low bars. :-D

Well, they're on a Bonnie and the bars aren't super low, but this may help you decide if you like them or not:

Recipe for T-Bird bar end mounts:
Ingredients: 4 washers, 2 nuts, JB Weld.
Get washers from local hardware store diameter as close as possible to the inner diameter of your handlebar. Get nut from same store, match thread to the screw that holds on the bar ends.

Now...spray mount screw with Pam spray (really, so the JB weld won't stick to it if it gets on accidently) - put screw through one washer, thread on nut, glue nut to washer with JB weld. When assembly dries, glue second washer to other side of nut, let dry. You now have a washer sandwich. NOTE: for good adhesion rough up the contact surfaces with coarse sandpaper or file. Clean with alcohol to remove all grease before applying JB Weld.

Are you with me so far? Good, now put a second coat of JB weld between the two washers. It's OK of it glops over, just file smooth after drying. You now have a bolt sandwiched and locked between two washers the same diameter as the inner handlebar

Guess what's next? That's right, using the screw in the thread as a handle, liberally apply JB weld to the inner handlebar diameter and outside of the washer/nut assembly, and insert in handlebar. Recess in around 1/2" or so. Let dry. Put a second coat around edge where washers contact the handlebar. Remove bolt, then screw handlebar ends into what is now a "blind nut" inside your handlebar.

Easier done than said - Done correctly JB Weld is plenty stong enough to take the moderate torque it takes to snug up the bar ends. I've had mine (using a Flanders Bar) on for 3 years now, no problems ever. :-D

If you go for the bar ends with an expanding rubber plug, be aware that there are two different sizes.

Some are made for alloy bars which have an smaller I.D. than steel bars, so the rubber plug has a smaller diameter to match.

Have Triumph stopped putting the threaded insert into their bars then? Unlikely I'd have thought. I have Triumph 'lower handlebars' on my T'bird, & they have the threaded inserts.
Are you sure you got genuine Triumph bars?

Ditto what cuppa said. do they have the drillings for the switches too?

As a solution to the ends question. I used some bar end plugs from a ducati monster they are small hemispherical black plastic plugs which look very nice, especially with CRG bar end mirrors.

I think I am going to go with the bar end mirrors they have on great bay. I am positive they are genuine Triumph accessories because not only do they have the drillings for the instruments I also paid a pretty penny for them. Not always a good indicator, but I did get them from the dealer special order. I just though it was a little odd that they they did have the inserts. Bar end mirrors seem to be the way to go because I absolutely loath my Mikey Mouse ears I have now for mirrors. Thank you all very much; as always this place is like an all inclusive Triumph knowledgebase. You all ROCK!
