Need an engine!!

Greetings:

I bought a 900 Legend TT last summer. After about a month of fun riding it all of a sudden sounded like a box of rocks. Took the engine apart and found 3d gear chewed up. I ordered parts but I am now being told that there are no third gears to be had. The s# is 128800 so it takes the newer combination. What I am thinking of now is buying a full engine off of someone and parting out the engine that I have or see if there is a engine with a ruined top end but an OK transmission.

So if anybody has a carborated 900 engine that they think will fit a Legend TT or a sound 3d gear or any good advice let me know. Thanks!!

Did you try a dealer or bikebandit for 3rd gear?

Pinwall Cycles on e-bay usually has some used engines.

+1 on Pinwall. I've bought some nice stuff from them, at decent prices. I do believe they have some 885 engines.

Pinwall is fantastic to deal with. They ship quickly and their prices are great. There are several motors on the site presently. Good luck on getting back on road quickly....

Thanks!!

I will check out all your suggestions. I did order all the pars I needed from bike Bandit. They had everything except the 3/4 gear which they said was not available in the US. I am now exploring my options. It certainly looks like I have a winter project!

Is it the input or the output gear? worldoftriumph.com is showing the output gear available, but not the 3/4th input.

I have never heard of gearbox problems on these motors before, what do you think caused the damage?

Have you tried Autocyclers in Tennessee? It's a salvaged motorcycle shop. Hundreds of bikes there. I know they have two scrapped Legends, since I recently purchased a couple of parts from them for my 1999 Legend. They will ship you the parts you need if it's too far to drive to their shop.
