I'm wondering if anybody out there has swapped out a summer screen for a roadster screen, or vice versa. I'm thinking about buying (what I believe is) a roadster screen, and I'm wondering if it will fit easily on the existing hardware for the summer screen. I emailed the guy for dimensions and location of mounting points, and he tried to answer my question, but I'm no clearer now than before.
By the way, does the roadster screen really give you much in the way of added relief from the wind? According to the dimensions that this guy sent me, it's only a few inches higher than my meager little summer screen (which seems to give me very little benefit at all at highway speeds). I'm also wondering if I should just go ahead and order a new Plexistar II, even at the expense of not having that oh-so-impressive Triumph logo proudly embossed on it.
Thanks folks.
Dale

There is no way the Triumph Roadster screen will hook up to the summer screen hardware. The Roadster hardware is totally different.
I have a Roadster screen and is it good at keeping wind off your chest, but your head, arms and hands are left out in the cold.
If you want a great screen for winter riding I strongly recomend the Plexifairing 2. I'd take it right off in the spring, because it is not stylistically right for the bike IMHO. (i.e. its ugly) But it is great at keeping the wind off you. I had one on my GS850 and it was great.

Hi,
Triumph did originally do a "winter" screen which is exactly the same as their summer screen but with an extra 6" height. I have one and it is a 2-minute job to swap, as the mountings are the same.
The "winter" screen moves the wind from off of my chest, onto the visor level. There is no additional hand protection, and so I fit the old 900 Tiger hand guards (& longer pivot bolts and washers). Again this is an easy swap, taking around 10-minutes.
I have not been able to find my "winter" screen in any of the accessory lists I have, so cannot give you a part#. I suspect it may have been withdrawn when the Roadster Screen was brought out? I guess there may be one laying on a dealers shelf somewhere?
Ciao,
Geoff

Thanks, Patrick, for the message-you have possibly saved me quite a few $$$, since I probably would have bid on that screen without your input. And yes, I've thought about the Plexifairing, but I was leaning toward the Plexistar because it seemed just a tiny bit less ugly, and I'm too lazy to put it on and take it off over and over, so whatever screen I finally get will probably be a fairly permanent addition.
But your note, Geoff, gives me new hope. That's what I want: the winter screen. In fact, the very first T-Bird I looked at (a '96) had one of these, and I couldn't understand why I never saw anything else like it on dealer web pages or on eBay. So maybe if I'm patient, say my prayers and eat my vegetables, a winter screen will show up online one of these days. And hey, Geoff, if you ever decide to part with yours, I would certainly make you an offer.
Regards,
Dale

I've seen pictures of that screen in some literature from Sprint manufacturing. It would be worth an inquiry to them, maybe they still have it available.

I also have the "winter" screen.
I have no experience with the current roadster screen but they seem to be a little more upright than mine. Maybe that is why so many complain about the turbulance.
Here are some pics.

I have also been looking for a Summer screen for a while. Had the same idea as everyone else. I think it would be pretty cool to have interchangeable screens. I even found the plastic only once on ebay but got outbid.

As far as getting ride of your summer screen for a roadster screen the grass is always greener. I started with the summer screen and after my bike got knocked over in a parking lot ($3800 damage/hit and run) I had the dealer replace it with the roadster screen. The first thing I found was at 65-70mph my helmet shaking with turbulence. I have tilted the screen back for some relief but really wish I saved the $100 and went with the summer screen again.
Good luck

I have a Roadster screen on my 99 Adventurer. The only issue I have it with it is some turbulence at high speed towards the top of my helmet. I am 5'10". I want to ditch it to get a summer screen, but only for cosmetic reasons. If you are interested, let me know and we could work out a trade. It is in excellent shape, no scratches.

Jim,
I could go for a swap, but I don't think that you'd be altogether happy with the trade: my summer screen is pretty boogered up. The bike was dropped before I got it, and so one side of the screen is scratched. On top of this, there is some sort of ugly mess in the center of the screen--some kind of burn or other blemish, and it looks like someone tried to even it up with sandpaper. Awful.
If you'd be willing to sell the your screen outright, let me know your price in a PM. Since I first posted that message, I've raced through quite a lot of my disposable motorcycle funds, but I might be able to squeeze a few more $$ from my piggybank.

I'll ask $225 for the roadster screen with all the hardware. Let me know if you need pix. Like I said it is unscratched and in almost new condition. MY bike has 2000 miles.
