Hi guys,

anyone know if the Bonneville screw on type petrol cap will fit the Thunderbird?

I have a customer who wants to fit a lockable fuel cap like this one:

The Bonnie cap should fit just fine. Cheers.

Hmmmmm...from my own experience I'll say "yes and no."

Yes, the cap will screw in.

However, it may not seal completely. I bought a locking cap from BellaCorse and while it was nice to have a locker, I found that if I filled the tank as full as I normally did with the non-locking cap, a sudden stop would slosh gas out from underneath the cap and onto the tank. So just be aware of that.

The caps are the same. I have a locking cap just like that on my Thunderbird.

Martin, I did have to swap the rubber seals over to get the new cap to seal properly.

Oliver,

When I test drove a T100 Bonnie for a day I found the fuel cap extremely difficult to unscrew. It was so bad I was about to give up and return to the dealers when it reluctantly behaved.

So, personally I would not want one on my Tbird.

From what I hear this problem has more to do with the tanks than the cap itself. However, these guys are talking about an aftermarket locking replacement.

I had the same thing with my Adventurer when new and thought there was something defective.

When I finally got the cap off I greased the underside of the rubber gasket on the cap and it made the situation much better.

Basically, it's going to take time for the cap threads and such to 'wear in' a bit.
