Hi all,
I know this is a subject much rehashed on this forum but now it's my turn.
I'm planning on new silencers and have it narrowed down to either the Toga peashooters (like CityRide's) or the Adventurer slashcuts (like ... i forgot his handle). I like the TBS TORSs but they look a little too fat, like the OEMs. I've also heard of Emgo, good (quality) and bad (service). Now I don't mind noise all that much, although my neighbors might disagree, but I don't want it "open pipe" loud either. I'm leaning towards the Togas to retain the peashooter style but sexy it up a bit with the slimmer lines and increased noise. However, I also really like the slashcut streetfighter look and like the idea of sticking with a Triumph product. I would think both would provide a lot of weight savings. Can anyone offer a noise level comparison between the two? How 'bout opinions on the looks of the two? The Togas aren't repackable are they?

Thanks!
Aaron

Aaron....if you want the Toga pipes like Cityrides I will sell you mine. Triumph gave me a set of off-roads. I obviously didn't know I was going to get them when I ordered my Toga's. They finally came in last week..about 6-7 weeks from initial order. PM me if interested.

Haven't heard the rest but I have a set of the Emgo reverse cone shortys. The quality is pretty good, very light, but very loud! They resonate so loud through my helmet it's crazy. To let you know I like loud exhaust, my 69 firebird has headers 2 1/2in exhaust, glass packs and turn downs and doesn't bother me, the Emgos do. Just my thoughts, Fbird.

I love my Togas- but to be honest, I wouldn't recommend them for a daily ride unless you are on good terms with both your neighbors and the local revenuers (aka cops with nothing better to do).

They are rumbly and crackly and make the TBS what it would be from the factory in a perfect world. They are only LOUD when you whack the throttle open, and when you do that, even the most distracted soccermom will pay attention. I have taken my TBS on 4-day rides without any noise issues. The average harley makes more noise cruising than I make passing them.... :-D

The Truth in Recommending Stuff Act of 1987 requires me to inform you that I ride a Sprint ST for a daily commuter and only ride the TBS a few times a month, so YMMV.

Thanks guys,

fbird, do you have any pics of your setup? I was thinking of that possibility as well but wasn't sure of the look. I've heard the EMGO quality is good and that price...

vonbonds, i can't pm until I get a few more posts on the forum. Had you installed the Togas? They're the NOS#17 right?

CityRide, thanks for the info. I'm on decent terms with my neighbors but my girlfriend's aunt is lives next door and is our landlady. I'd hate to piss her off ... oh yeah, and she's a cop to boot. I actually had some V&H staightshots on my vulcan 800 and she didn't mind. They were baffled though, but way louder than stock.

Anyone care to sound off on the Adventurer TORSs?

Hey Aaron, took some pictures for you of my Emgo's. Not the greatest pics but hopefully will be good enough for you to see.
Again the quality is good, but definately not as nice as the factory Triumph parts. The sound is pretty cool but way too loud, I packed mine with silent sport which can be used on 2 strokes and its still to loud. Hope this helps, the pics are on the bottom of the page and there is also a pic on the next page in the photo album.

Here are the Toga's on my basement floor..haha. I haven't even tried to mount them yet and won't bother if someone wants to buy them since I already have the Triumph Offroads for my TBS.

Has anyone got, tried or heard D&D slip ons? I am concerned that they would be too loud too. I am in the market for pipes too and with this thread and my internet search it just gets more and more confusing!!
Are Triumph Off Roads as good or better performing and sounding as all these options? What helped you guys decide?
Thanks, John. :???:

Personally, In chose the Togas because I wanted the Norton-style reverse cones. It was and is strictly a nostalgia thing.

Performance? Meh. I doubt you'll really get any gain from one "off road only" system to another in real practice. It seems like there's always at least one performance guy saying, "Yeah, I picked up another .003 crank hp at 36,000 rpm by using genuine John Deere Parts and burning 2 percent unicorn blood with the fuel." Well, I'm still in the break-in period and try not to exceed 34,000rpm, so thanks... They all breathe better than stock, and past that, it's academic. (or racing)

Weight? I know going from the stock silencers to Togas was the fastest loss of lots of useless weight I've seen since Rosanne got cancelled. I imagine the TOR's are in between the two...
