I have the pipes off the TBS for making a custom 3-1 system, so rode the Honda today -- what a POS, can't believe I used to idolize that bike. It's still in good shape, but feels like a toy, can't wait to finish the TBS & get it back on the road again. For anyone contemplating the new Triumph Scrambler: "nostalgia isn't what it used to be"
The 3-1 project is going well. I finally got the used Ebay 99 Adventurer pipes from the seller, took a long time to get here. They are nearly identical to the 04 TBS pipes except they don't have the cross-over and they exit at a different angle. Other than that, they are the identical length and diameter as the TBS pipes.
Anyone have any thoughts about opening up the diameter of the restrictor at the input end of the pipes? They each have a stout weld bead that reduces the pipe i.d. by quite a bit, I'm sure it's an intentional design detail for better scavenging and increased exhaust velocity as it exits the head, but they have an irregular profile, not at all round. It's easy to open them up with a die grinder & profile the weld a bit smoother.
I'll post pic's as the project progresses, finally got my TIG welder working again & need to do a few practice beads. The existing Adventurer pipes are actually stainless steel and will polish nicely, so if I can grind & buff the welds good enough, it won't look like a Frankenstein/kludge job. I ended up bending and cutting & splicing the pipe for cyl. #1 so it can tuck behind #2 & #3 pipes so all 3 are quasi-equal length. I'm trying to route them so they clear the oil filter. I'm going to have to do some more bending so they don't stick too far out to the right, as it is now, the collector is going to end up directly under the brake lever and I don't want them ever to be a restriction for the rear brake application.
