I was in a situation like this today...and it gave me the scare of my life.

I stopped for a red light. Suddenly I hear screeching brakes, I check my rearviews and see a Volvo V70 growing and growing in the mirrors. I throw in 1st gear and run the light...and stop again about 1/3 of the way into the intersection when I see the Volvo coming to a halt. I back the bike up again so I won't get hit by the cars crossing. The Volvo was parked slightly sideways at the exact spot where I had been standing half a second earlier.
There was a woman in the Volvo shaking her head and slightly laughing....as if to apologize...
I was so freaked out I just got the hell out as fast as I could. I should have put my stand down and gone and knocked on her window to see what the hell she was doing.....

This was a bit of a wake up call...things happen so fast! I was lucky this time!

And we just watched that video last night. Spooner, somebody is either looking out for you or is out to get you.
Good thing you moved quickly!

Volvos are not as common here in the US as in Europe, but here they're regarded as being much 'safer' than most other cars.

My personal observation is that Volvo drivers are particular dangerous on the roads.

I don't know if that's because the drivers think they're safe from everything and behave stupidly or whether they buy the cars because they're lousy drivers to begin with and need some extra protection!

When I see a Volvo on the road I stay away from it.

I stay even further away if there's a plastic Jesus on the dashboard and AAA/MCA stickers. Thats' a lousy driver trying to cover all the bases. :-D

All of which reminds me of a psycho a*sshole I used to know who absolutely HATED Volvo drivers!

He carried an automatic center punch in his saddlebag. If he felt that somebody screwed with him on the highway, he'd follow them until they parked. Then he'd pull up next to them, reach over with the center punch and click it against a window which caused the window to explode into itty bitty chips.

Jim

The most dangerous ones here in the UK are the SUV drivers, especially on school runs.

I got the feeling that this particular Volvo owner was your regular soccer mom with a mobile phone glued to her ear. Judging from the sounds and lenght of her braking distance she was going much too fast as well.

What bugs me is that all throughout that day I couldn't relax whenever I stopped for a light...I was constantly checking my rearviews getting ready to get the hell out....not much fun riding that way

Ahem....being a Triumph rider AND a Volvo driver, I beg to differ.

That said, my Volvo is an 164 B30A from 1969.
