My 96' Adventurer will not start I think it might be the starter.
The bike has power but when I go to turn it over it does nothing except neutral light will dim, no noise no nothing. Does anybody have any ideas. I have the bike apart looking for loose wires anything.

More information is needed.
- Has the bike been starting OK up to now?
- Has the battery sounded strong or weak on starting?
- Have you put a charger on the battery?
- How old is the battery?
- Are the battery connections clean and tight?
There is more troubleshooting for the starter relay and starter after you have confirmed the state of the battery.
Let us know and HTH.

The bike had been sit-up in a co-workers house for two years. He said it was a new battery but when I got it I had to take it to a mechanic to get it running change all fluids charge battery clean carbs. I took it to a bike rally started fine their as long as it was run a lot. I have had it start to crank then get real weak, and not do anything then try again and start right up.

I think it is safe to say that the battery is at fault. I replaced mine this year under similar circumstances. We have had discussions on this site about how our Classic's alternators tend to overcharge the system and boil the battery, battery life, and so on.
Replace yours and check the fluid level regularly; weekly or monthly, depending on how much you ride. You will find that you need to top it up.
HTH :-D

Hi Jeno,
This sounds very like somethin that happened to my Legend recently. Presuming your new battery is charged and fitted correctly, listen for a click from the starter relay when you hit the starter. No click = relay shot, replace and ride. A click but still not turning over = starter shot. Replace and ride.
Unfortunatly, I found putting a new starter on a pain in the butt. It hides behind all the water hoses so draining the coolant is on the cards. Make sure you get all the sealing washers and gaskets you need first ( that was my mistake!). Its not a hard job, just fiddley.
But i hope it doesn't come to that and the new battery has it running like a good 'un.
Take it easy. :-D

Have you tried starting it the old fashioned way? Put her in 2nd gear and roll her down a hill.
Other than that..I had the exact same situation with my wifes Honda. When we bought it it had been standing in the garage for 1.5 years...recharged the battery and it started fine for a few weeks and then just gave up. Popped in a new battery and the problem was solved instantly.

Put in the new battery still no response. Bigred900 I think, or hope is right on it I have no click when pushing in the starter button. I will order a new starter relay, and replace. If that does not work I will move to the starter. Having dealt with old cars in my younger years I remember having problems with the starter, and that distinctive click.
Thanks guys riding weather is in the high 70s cant wait to get it fixed. Will keep you posted.

Is there a separate inline fuse for the starter circuit? There was a thread about this a while back.
ps Check also the starter switch at the handlebar. Mine was working intermittently a while back, a shot of WD40 sorted it.

Are you getting that click? The in-line fuse that Slinky mentions is in the bundle at the battery, 15amp.
