Jaben,
I've trodden this path aswell over the last two years, so I'll try and explain briefly here but you need to read the threads on the subject to get more detail.
firstly here's a picture of my bike (2000 TBS) with t'bird TOR's fitted:
http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...view_photo.php
you need to remove the TBS silencer hangers and swap them over left for right (lhs hanger reversed and put on the rhs pipe) then put a slight twist in the bracket to fit. It lines up very well but you also need to create some clearance at the swingarm too. This requires the header nuts to be loosened and the cross pipe under the bike being spread a bit. To achieve this just slacken the pinch bolt and waggle the two sides away from each other about 1/2" or so. A bit of a fouter but it can be done.
The easy way out is just to put TBS TOR's on, I had a pair of these until fairly recently, but they may not be available any more from Triumph.
Another option, which I now have and have only finished moaning about on another thread, is to fit drilled through standard t'bird pipes.
K&N / jetting etc, done that too but far too much detail to list here. You'll need to look up the threads on TBS carb mods / airbox mods.
As regards noise: the TBS TOR's are very mellow, no harshness like the drilled t'bird pipes. The t'bird TOR's are in the middle noise wise, but they carry 'not for road use' stamps which means a fail at the annual MOT test in the UK. They all perform much the same low to midrange with airbox / jetting mods, but the drilled pipes seem to have the best top end, so far as my but dyno can tell.
