Well I just filled the battery again. It's less than six weeks since I last filled it, maybe 4,000 klms. Many times I have filled it(as with this time) and it has been well below halfway down the plates.
Pretty soon this battery has to fail, its still the original one, 26 months and 54,000 klms. Any ideas how we can fix the battery boiling problem.

Doesn't appear to be much we can do about it except change the battery. Read this thread where we discussed it before.

Yeah I remember that thread, but I'm a little worried, what if it fails while Im in the middle of the snowy mountains?
I'm heading off monday morning for the annual Pilgrimage to the MotoGP at Phillip Island, and some riding in the snowies after. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and buy one in the morning.

I have noticed something weird, since changing my original Yuasa battery for a cheap pattern one, I have not had to top it up..

The new battery has done about 3000 miles, and not lost a drop.

I put a new Yuasa in mine this year, but haven't checked it yet. Will do so and get back with you.

Sounds to me that you ought to check it more often. A few minutes every couple of hundred miles could save you a lot of bike pushing.

Lots of folks replace their battery every three years, regardless of condition or maintenance, just to be on the 'safe' side.

I ran the original battery into the fifth year, but then I check the water regularly...

G'day Woodsie,
FWIW my original battery lasted just on 4 years, & that was with a 'smart trickle charger' connected whenever the bike was parked in the shed. Interestingly even the charger would lower the fluid level too, so not just the T'birds charging system. Never had it drop to as low as halfway though.
Hmmm, guess I should go & check the battery fluid level now..........nah it's nice & warm in here & pissing down with rain outside. ;-)
regards
Cuppa.
Ps. YES! YOU HAVE TOLD US HOW MUCH YOU LIKE YOUR BLOODY EXHAUST SYSTEM !!!! ;-)
Pps. What did you end up doing with your footrests?
Ppps. Hope you enjoy all the wind & rain down on the island.

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Well mate I ended up putting the stockie footpegs back on, gunna maybe modify the Raasks at a later date. Looking forward to the wind and rain down the island, its been over 40 dgrees up here for a couple days. Add 5 degrees to the Brisbane temp and thats our place. Thank God for airconditioning.
I hope you and yer mob are well mate and maybe I'll drop in while down that way.No promises but, the MCNews crew have a pretty full schedule planned. :-D

The OEM batteries are not very good. I got two seasons out of mine. I replaced it with a fuberglass mat sealed battery. Hasn't been on a charger in 2 years.

Well I just thought I would drag this thread back up, I have returned from over 5,000 klms in 9 days. The battery is still alive. I checked it while I was in Victoria, and it was at the lower level. On returning home I topped it up, the middle two cells were down to the plates. Just have to keep checking it. Did a voltage reading, 12.7 volts not running, 13.2 @idle, 14.7 @4400. too much I fear. I am going to investigate fitting another reg in line after the alternator.
Bike went like a charm, its amazing the abuse my bike can withstand.
Power down a little at high altitude, in the highlands it wouldnt pull 6th gear past 160klms/h. Not worried I'm a flatlander anyway.
60,000klms now and the only major issue I have is the charging circuit.
Happy I tell's ya :-D The racing was great, the partying good, and the riding in the highlands of Victoria awesome. :-D
