Well, I called the Mikuni dealer last week to order some pilots.
This fella picks up and I ask "do you have pilots for my 36mm kunis bla bla bla...I'm looking for three 42's".
Man on the phone goes: "Hmmm...errrr...yeah we have 42.5".

42.5????? .5????? Whatchoooooo mean .5????? What's the .5 for????? Does the .5 make it go faster????

I made a poor attempt at starting a conversation with him about the difference between vacuum carbs and "the other kind" :-D ...whatever they may be. Not that I know anything about this....not enough to have an intelligent conversation about the difference anyway. But I was feeling in a good mood so I figured why not.....
He wouldn't have any of it...in the middle of my yackin' he goes "DO YOU WANT ME TO SEND YOU THE 42 POINT 5's??????"
I guess he got the number on me pretty fast and just decided I was another dumb f'er who was doodling too much with my bike....Not far from the truth I might add...but I won't.

Anyhoooooo....took the whole thing apart tonight in order to install my 42 POINT 5 pilots. When I was done I took the bike for a tiny spin.....in the middle of the night....a foggy night. Couldn't see anything because of the fog so I took it pretty piano...plus there was a police car following me around....probably wondering why some schmuck dressed in camos and a black leather jacket was out foolin' with a bike in the middle of the night. My initial reaction was that the bike felt a lot more perky!! I wonder if it is because I've changed to bigger pilots??? I think it's because of the .5.
Regular 42's wouldn't make much of a difference...it's the .5 that gives that extra push off the cliff :hihi:

Long boring story....but what the heck, I just felt like sharing about the .5 experience.

I'll do a follow up 2morrow when I've given the bike a proper handling with the new pilots.

Ha Ha - Andreas that sounds just like when I changed my mains - they didn't have the #122 I was looking for, but had #122.5 - I am like "what's up with the extra point-five"?

But Johnny said to go ahead and try the 122.5's and so that's what I am running now.

I am on 40 pilots still though...

Will probably tweek the jetting once my K&N pods "finally" arrive. The bike is a little rich, but it may help when I drill out the stock pipes, I dont know, will see once it's done.

I haven't seen a Triumph pulled apart at the molecular level before - I'd like to see some pics of that.

Hey - maybe the cop was following you cause he digs your big helmet....

:-)

Your a bloody masochist spooner. You need to get a Job or something you have way too much time on your hands :-D
Seriously though I'm glad to hear its running better, I'm ready to up my pilots to 42. Maybe I'll get the point fives too. :-D Still got that popping on decel. It will have to wait now till I get back from the annual pilgimage. Philip Island, last round of the motoGP.

Ouch...that was low Ray...very low :hihi:
They were probably wondering why there was a full lunar eclipse all of a sudden.

Anyhooo! Did some riding with my .5's today and I must say that the throttle response is way better!! Popping seems to be down a bit too...not that it's ever bothered me all that much but I guess less popping is a sign of an engine in better tune. Idle was improved when I put on the 3 into 1...and it seems to have improved even more now with the .5's.
The only question mark right now is that there seemed to be a slight...itsy bitsy drowning tendency at red lights...nothing major but still...Maybe that can be fixed by tweaking the idle mixture???

Overall I'm very pleased!

Yes I am a masochist...I get punished every morning at around 6:30 when my son and daughter wake up. They don't give a shiiiiiiit that daddy had been down in the garage until 2 in the morning installing point fivers on his carbs.

There's a fine line between clever and stupid I guess.....
