I currently have an '03 T'Bird Sport, it's done about 11,000 km. I've just noticed that it has oil dripping out of what I think is a join in the bottom of the air-box, on the left hand side of the bike. The oil is brown looking and is dripping down onto the engine casing and onto the floor........can anyone help me with a possible cause and remedy?

Sounds like the oil is overfilled, what happens is this the extra oil finds its way up the breather into the airbox, then dribbles out. Next time you change the oil dont put so much in. With filter it contains 3.5 litres max.
There is also a drain tube on the airbox, which has a plug in it. Remove the plug and let it drain into a container overnight. Should fix the problem.

It seems that your airbox is plenty of oil..

1st you can drain it, there is a small black rubber pipe starting from the bottom of the air box and ending close to the rear schock.. this "pipe" has a small interior caps at the end. push it away an drain

Concerning the cause 2 options

1 st engine overfilled

2 nd the centrifugator seal has to be replaced ( relatively common failure on T3 classics) most of the time taken under warranty at least in Europe

My 03 TBS has had this problem since new.Garage floor looks like heck. My dealer mechanic showed me the hose with the plug in but that doesn't solve the problem. He did not seem too worried about it. But he doesn't have to explain to the wife why a new floor looks like this. Oil not over full. infact it still did it when I got a real leak from the clutch push rod seal (I think) and the oil was low. I would like a better answer. Anyone got one??

I had the same problem. Oil always dripping from the left corner of the airbox. Excess oil gathers there after parking on the side stand. Mine was caused by the breather seal. Since replacing that seal I have not had any problems. When I first discussed this with my dealer he pulled the breather hose from the front of the airbox. He told me that would solve the problem for now. I put a small automotive breather filter on the end of the hose and rode it like that for several months until I got around to replacing the seal. Never had any issues or oil leaks so it kind of proved the problem was the seal.

I think Stan's on the money... in the left hand crank cover there is a seal which allows crankcase gases to vent to the airbox but should keep out oil. If it's faulty or has been damaged when fitting the cover, then oil will get into the airbox.

Your dealer can supply a plastic mandrel which should always be fitted to the seal when the cover is removed, to prevent it from distorting. It probably comes with a new seal anyway.

Specifically the issue is the centrifugal oiler in the left, front engine case. Originally these were mostly plastic and eventually with all its spinning it would deform, hence the leak. The replacement one is black and the center is metal. Three parts will need to be ordered, engine gasket, oiler and seal; should be less than $100 in parts.

I think the seal itself cost me $27.00.
I remember because that seemed ridiculous for th item I was holding in my hand. If you look at the pictures in the link below there are a few (first 3 in the third row)that show the seal already installed in the crank cover. The bright green thing is the mandrel that comes with it to keep the seal from deforming in storage. I kept mine and re used it while doing the Sprag Clutch job.
