Finally, I got around changing the pilot jet on my TBS. I should say that I changed them against all opinion from dealers to tuners to mechanic. They all seem to believe that the pilot jet have no function. I guess they were trying to tell me that they did not know where to order them.

I now have the TBS with the Trophy airbox and the main jets at 146-142-146 with 1/2 shims. (Speed Triple cams) From 4000 RPM to the redline it was a blast but I was finding the bottom way too lean, popping a lot and a difficult to stabilize iddle. Now with the 42 pilot, no more popping on decel, an iddle to dream off and much sharper at low revs.

All this to say that tuners are busy with the top end, they do not seem to care much of what is happening at the bottom.

You're right about mechanics not knowing much about jetting. They really don't have time to do a proper rejetting and still turn a profit. Companies that manufacture jet kits are the guys you need to talk to and even they can only get you close due to different intake and exhaust set-ups. BTW, what exhaust do you have and what did you set the mixture screws to?

I have the Triumph off road pipes and at the moment I have the mixture screws out 2 turns. I am waiting for my gages to adjust them. I know I would not pass any test for anti pollution right now.

From everything I've read, I thought the classic triples all came with a 38 pilot.

I just swapped my mains out to 122.5, and I was going to bump up my pilots, but when I took them out they were already #40. So left them as is for now.

I may eventually try the #42 as well.
