Here's another trip to the wealthy mine of your collective knowledge and experience...

The front brakes on my '98 TBS have seemed a bit "grabby" lately. It seems that previously the braking power was very linear -- increased input on the lever caused a smooth increase in stopping power. Now it seems the effect is less until a point when the brakes grab strongly.

The symptoms are more pronounced at slower speeds. So braking while riding through sweeping turns seems fairly normal, but the problem becomes apparent when coming to a stop at a traffic light or riding in traffic.

Brake fluid level is fine. Brake pads are good. The one changed factor is the weather -- it has been horribly and oppressively hot since I first noticed the problem. Could that be the cause?

Thanks,

Rob

System could need cleaning - see the thread on changing your brake fluid!

Remove the calipers from the wheel and clean them thouroughly with brake parts cleaner.... they are probably dirty and sticking.

I had similar symptoms on my T'bird at 24,000kms. I had thought the disc was warped, but not the case. surface 'hardening' on the disc had 'broken down' but was not obvious to the naked eye. Disc was replaced under warranty, problem solved.

Cuppa.

I know the feeling you are describing.

I too would be inclined to check for gunge around the caliper pistons. Have the pads ever been replaced, and if so were the pistons cleaned before they were pushed back?
