I know I've got Mikuni but is there any difference in quality between these two? Would there be any point in changing to Keihin?

I've found a bank from a TBS. Do the TBS carbs differ from the T-bird carbs?

Kehin is typically known for better quality than Mikuni. They are also a little more economical.

Apart from the flatslide Keihins, I personally think that the Mikiunis give better performance.

The Mikunis are noted for slide wear and wear of the needle jet which makes them less reliable over time than the Keihins.

You might want to compare the prices on new slides, needles and jets to determine whether purchasing the Keihins might be more economical than the eventual repair of the Mikunis.

I have TBS carbs on my Tbird. The jetting is identical to the Keihin-equipped "normal" Tbirds. After a lot of experimenting I went back to using the Keihins with the restricted rubbers from the Mikunis, and #90 main jets. It never ran as sweet with the unrestricted rubbers.

Apart from the horrible plastic slides already mentioned, and the infamous needle jets, another cause of concern for me is the fact the floatbowls on the Mikunis are only held on by two screws instead of four, so they are said to be prone to warpage. I have not heard of this happening, but by the time I bought my Keihins and sold my Mikunis on ebay I broke even.

One of these days I will get around to rejetting the carbs to suit the unrestricted rubbers. I will go with Jimmys recipe of #40 pilot and 100 mains.

I'd say they're more prone to damage by gorilla-armed mechanics... :-D
