I would like some info on this swap. I am think of changing to a 19 tooth on my 01 legend. I know I will lose some power. But I ride with some guys that ride for miles at 75 to 85 the rpm worry me. they are very high. do i need to be worried. I think at 80 I am turning about 6,000. if I go to a 19 what rpm will I turn at 60 and 80. And if I do will the power lose be that bad? I do like power. thanks ron

T bird gear ratio

Have a look here..

OEM ratio is 17 X 43.. Swap to 18 is a got step at first..
you will cruise at 80 mp/h at 5000 rpm
Take in account that your rear tire dimension is affecting tyhe result.. Standart dimension for a legend is 160/70/17

I made up an Excel spreadsheet to calculate this stuff (including chain length) and if you want a copy send me an e-mail address. It's set up so you can input your rear tire info and try various sprocket sizes and rpms.

Anyhow, with my Adventurer data input, 80 mph is about 5200 rpm in 5th gear

A 19 tooth input sprocket with a 43 tooth output sprocket will gives 80 mph at about 4700 rpm. It looks like you won't have to change the chain for that combo, but it might on the edge of adjustment.

I haven't included thrust calculations in the spreadsheet but I'll take a look adding that sometime soon.
