Took the Legend to Englishtown/Raceway Park tonite and was drag racing against my friend with his Harley/Suzuki hybrid frankenbike.
For $20 your supposed to get 3 runs. although if attendance is light (like tonite) you can just keep going and going. I got 7 runs in. 1st run (worst)88.31mph with a time of14.79.
By the way my friend hadnt gotten there yet and I went against a drag modified 'Busa he did 140.44 and 9.79 secs.
six runs later I improved to a top speed of 96.13 and 13.72 secs. my buddys to speed was 108.42 and11.90secs.
He's got an S&S 113 motor so I was seriously outclassed in the displacement dept.
Plus between runs he would shut it down so it wouldnt overheat and I would have to push start him for the next run! Wherby he would soundly trounce my poor Legend
Though I have a K&N filter and 105 mains the stock gearing is holding me back. I say this because i thought the rev limiter was at 7750rpm and on the last run I figured what the hell I'll hit the limiter and see what happens as I looked down I was at 8500 or so in 3rd well into the red zone and just shifted from there. Makes me think had I been doing that all along I could have broken the 100mph mark. Oh well I had a lot of fun and being at a real dragstrip was very cool.
I guess this qualifys as my first "track day" no?

Next time race the Speed Triple, that Harley will be looking at your tailight. I don't know about the 'Busa though.

Great stuff! I found an old airfield not far from my house. I plan on going there soon to race my brother and my neighbor a.k.a. Sportster 1200R and Ducati S2R. I'm not too worried about the Harley....the Ducati on the other hand....

Well Chris's bike is actually a H-D FXR frame a Fat Boy oil tank and Suzuki Katana forks and wheels. the S&S 113 motor is about 1550 cc displacement. And a claimed 100hp (which I believe)So I was at a serious disadvantage displacement -wise.(665 cc) And Horsepower-wise(maybe 25 hp?)We got to weigh our bikes at the scale they have there and the Legend weighed 522lbs full of gas and oil (of course) Chris weighed in at 536 lbs full.
I just pulled the plugs on my bike a few hours ago and the bike was running very lean even tho I have #40 pilots set at 2 1/2 turns , so I turned them out another 1/2 turn and things seemed to improve. But I think I really need #42 pilots to be happy. Also found my #3 plug wire was not fully on the #3 coil,so I figure I was running on 2 1/2 cylinders!
Still It was great fun ,and if you have the chance to do it I would absolutely recommend it.
I also think I have a "weak" coil as well.
As for drag racing the S3 I wouldnt do it for fear of looping the thing.
Spooner: You will smoke the H-D without a doubt ( I did it all the time even when the Legend was bone stock),but the Duc will be more than a Hinckley classic can handle.

Sounds like a lot of fun, but 113ci would be over 1800cc so he had a big capacity advantage.

Hey Slinky, are you sure about those numbers?

If thats right then I dont feel that bad. If Chris has more than twice my displacement and ony went 13 mph faster....
Wait! I think I have the solution!!! I'll just wait till Triumph come out with thier 1530cc twin and have another go :hammer:

Yeah I think it would be around 1880cc, which is a huge motor. You need to borrow a rocket and really show him who's boss.

Come to think of it you could probably buy a Rocket III for less than he paid for his motor alone.
