As I've mentioned, we just had an addition to the family...a 98 TBS. In addition to other anomalies with this used bike, we just discovered that the bars are not the stock bars, but a bit more "upright" like TBird (non-sport) bars. Actually, after looking at an Adventurer close up, they aren't THAT high, so I'm not sure where these came from.

In any case, I'd rather not spend the $$ for Triumph bars, especially as the Girlfriend isn't sure she want lower bars (I don't like these at all). Any sources of aftermarket bars similar to the Triumph OEM handlebars, I can look into? Google has failed me in my search.

TIA

I found a set at my local bike shop for $19.95. They look very similar to the Triumph "Low" handlebar for the Tbird, which I think may be the same as (or similar to) the Tbird Sport bar. I'm going to get them tomorrow, then I'll post the info.

Please let me know your results. I'm definitely interested in getting something closer to the stock OEM bars.

There are tons of aftermarket bars that will fit the TBS - basically any 7/8" bar will fit the clamps. Flanders bars seem to be popular on this board, do a search and you'll find some threads (and links). I replaced the bars on my Legend twice w/ generic Emgo 7/8" bars (two different styles) - they were about $20 each at my local parts-o-rama.

The only catch is, you'll have to accomodate the little plastic nub on the switchgear. The OEM Triumph bars have a hole to accomodate them. You can either drill a hold in your new bars (tricky, but can be done w/ a centerpunch), or you can dremel the nubs off, they're just plastic. But if you do that, your switchgear may rotate around on the bar...

HTH.

I just posted about this in another thread but note that the locating holes are not symmetric - you can't measure one side and assume it's the same on the other side.

IIRC, the RH hole is 6.25" from the bar end and the LH hole is only 6" but measure it yourself - don't rely on my dodgy memory!

BTW, any bike shop can order up (or may even have in stock) bars from the catalogues they carry - like Tucker Rocky or J&P. You can view some of these catalogues and buy online at www.cycledepot.net. They sometimes have respectable discounts too.
