I have done the research on the solo seat and since I own a TBS now I know it will obviously fit since it was intended for this bike. I have read that the seat is incredibly hard. Does it break in like a Corbin to the point that it becomes extremely comfortable to the rider or does it just stay hard forever? How many hours in the saddle can you solo seat owners go?

After I figure out what exhaust I want for the bike I need to resolve the seat. The solo seat is a beautiful look but if I can't ride the bike long it doesn't make much sense going that route. If I ditch the solo seat look I will probably either get a Corbin or a Sprint Manufacturing seat.

I've heard the same about the solo seat, but haven't heard any testimonials over long term.

I saw a site's review, but I'm too tired (i.e. lazy) to go look for it now. :???:

Tom,

I guessing that this is the "gunfighter" solo seat as there really has to be something behind you to cover the unsightly frame and shock mounts on top of the rear fender.

If so, then I can offer a butt review. I put the TBS gunfighter seat on my '01 Legend (made it fit!) about two years ago. I hated the stock seat. Very uncomfortable. Couldn't ride more than 25-30 miles without taking a break. I know, I know-everybody's butt has a different opinion of every seat but my wife had the same problem. The gunfighter seat LOOKED even more uncomfortable but it isn't!! Now I can do a tankful before a break. Still nowhere as comfy as the seats on the fast red TBA or the R3 but a big improvement. I haven't noticed if it "breaks in" or my butt "breaks in" but still better.

Enjoy the TBS. It's a very different ride from the R3 and equally enjoyable. They're great bikes!

Cogito ergo equito

I have both the solo and the Sprint Manufactring seat. The solo seems hard to start but is not bad at all. I did 300 miles yesterday on it, no butt problems but may be I have an iron butt. Since we all feel the seat different I don't know if you will like it.

I have the solo seat on my 2K-TBS. (now at 19,300 miles)
It is harder then the stock seat, and has onot changed since new. (4 years)

The stock seat puts preasure in places on my "behind" that would make it go numb rather quickly.

The solo seat seems to fit my "behind" good, but not quite good enough for rides over 2 hours. I mainly ride around localy. When on longer day trips I find myself stopping often for a break.

If I were to go on a long trip I think I would try one of those gel seat cover things other people have mentioned.

Maybe I'm just a hard ass but I've done five hundred mile day rides through the twisties and been fine with the solo seat. The Corbin will have you sitting further back, but from what I remember you're a big guy so that might be fine.

Thanks for the comments so far. I would go for the Corbin Gunfighter and Lady if I go the Corbin route. If I go the solo seat route I would go for the MickMaguire, TBStunta and cafescot look in which they removed their rear fender.

Even though I love the look of the solo seat and the rear fender elimination style I am leaning towards keeping the stock look and getting a nice 2up saddle.

I am a big guy too...6'1" and 250lbs....working on the 250lbs now and time will take care of the 6'1" .

I have both the solo seat and standard, The solo seat is hard at first but you seem to get used to it after a while . It has a good advantage over the stock seat in that you can stuff quite a lot under the hump, waterproofs etc. I even managed a air compressor.

For touring I use the standard seat as it is definitely better on long runs and the throw over panniers I have fit pretty well. In comparison to the seat on my previous bike , a BMW R1200C cruiser, both triumph seats are far better. but then everyones bum is different what is fine for me may not work for you.

I have the Stock Seat, The solo seat, and the Corbin Gunfighter made for the 97-98 TBird which I modified.

The Solo is by far the best looking.

The Corbin looks good also and is by far the most comfortable although it sits you way back (at least three inches over stock).

The Solo is hard. Has about a half inch of foam between you and the seat pan. I do not find it unfomfortable. With just the bare seat I like it much more than stock. With a beaded seat covered by a sheep skin on the stock it is as comfortable as the solo.

Also, it is not an either or thing unless you bob the rear fender. I can go from either Corbin or Solo to the stock seat with Sissybar and Luggage Rack in about 15 minutes.

Tom, you have a two person bike go ahead and make this one a solo cafe. Remember nothing I have done is permenant; it only takes fifteen minutes to swap back to the regular fender and seat.
