I checked all over RAT.NET for some info on raising the fork tubes on a TB or TBS and the effects on handling. I know a lot of people use this as a way to drop their seat height. But there is little or no info on how it affects handling. Here's what I found.
After experimenting with varying amounts, I settled in at 12mm, approximately 3/8 of an inch. Where the bike used to feel slightly heavy in side to side transition, it's now entirely too smooth. The bike used to enter a turn aggressively enough and would tend to run wide if you let it. Now, it will hold a straight track through the middle of any mountain curve we've got with little or no real effort. And acceleration out of a turn is steady and predictable. Combine this with the change from the stock Avons to Bridgestone Battlax tires and it feels like a new bike. High speed stability has not been compromised at all.
The TBS is a great handling bike on its own, but a few adjustments and, WOW, game on.
