I went to the North Pole today (no, not that one) and checked out their accomodations for us. It looks like exactly what we need, and Mel's Diner across the road served me an incredible Turkey Club, so I think the food situation is also in fine shape. A Sunoco gas station is just down the road on the corner, so fueling is also all set. The location at the foot of the Whiteface Mountain Veteran's Highway is also convenient, as we can pick the clearest day to ride to the summit, and still have the rest of the day available for more riding. I thought a picture of our classic triples all lined up on top might be a nice souvenir.
The lodging situation has lots of choices for you, including a standard motel room with two double beds in each room, small cabins with accomodations for 2, or campsites for those who wish to tent. There are more deluxe rooms available, but I assumed most would want to bunk up two to a room for the lowest cost. The good news is that they will hold 4 standard rooms, 3 cabins and 4 tentsites for us until May 1st, 2010, and then you are risking not having accomodations with the group. They have a total of 20 rooms and lots of campsites, so if we have more who wish to attend, they can be accomodated without a problem. There are several other motels nearby, and a state campground up the road a bit, so latecomers will still find a place to sleep, but it won't be with the rest of us. The standard rooms are on the ground floor in the back of the building, which has a picnic area with tables and fire pits just across the parking lot for us to use at night. I thought a nice warm fire and cold beer might be something that would interest some of you at the end of the day? (They do have quiet hours after 10 PM, but I assured them that we were the laid back type, and would enjoy our conversations at a reasonable level)
Rates for next season have not been finalized, but they will e-mail them to me soon, and I will post them. The estimates I posted earlier are certainly very reasonable.
Although I rode the entire Adirondack Park this past summer, my buddies and I will do lots more homework next spring, and find some great routes using Wilmington as the home base. I will have a list of routes created, with good eats and gas stops marked, so folks can ride in whatever direction they wish and tour at their own pace. If some want me to serve as a tour guide, I am happy to do that as well. I'll also post some pictures to whet your appetites a bit.
Here's the website again, and feel free to call and get your reservations made. Just tell them you are in the Triumph Rally group, and they will know what to do with you.
