centrestand fitting issues
I've just fitted a centrestand from an Adventurer to my TB, and notice a couple of problems: 1.) When the stand returns, it connects with the exhaust on the left side; and 2.) despite shortening the spring with pliers, the stand still hangs so much that it scrapes the road when making gentle left turns.
Do I require a spring specifically for the TB, rather than the Adventurer spring? Do others experience the same problems (particularly the stand banging the exhaust. Clearly the plates which should stop the stand before it hits the exhaust are several mm out, though they show no sign of excess wear. The best solution I can think of is to weld a little more metal onto the bottom of these to lower the point at which they meet the stand.)

Adam:
It is probably not a great idea to try using an Adventurer centerstand on a T-Bird. This is why there are different centerstand part numbers for different models...
The Adventurer frame has several differences from the T-Bird, as does the exhaust, and the front wheel is larger. The height of the T-Bird is 45 inches, and the Adventurer is 53 inches.
In short, they are not very compatible...

I believe the centerstands were unique for each model, due to the different tire sizes and subframe assemblies. I put a TB side stand on my Legend, as it was longer and I had swapped in a different rear shock which raised the arse end a bit. You may not be able to use the Adventurer centerstand without some serious modification. Someone on here will undoubtably know for certain.

I bolted up an Adventurer center stand on the Tbird. It came off a bike that was being parted out, it bolted up with no problem and fits fine although cannot be certain that the center stand off the Adventurer wasn't for a Thunderbird originally.....
Now I am wondering.

On my fiche the centre stand kit (part number A9950063) is listed as being for the Thunderbird (all VINs) and for Adventurers up to VIN 71698. The Legend (all VINs) had a separate centre stand kit (part number A9758011) with a shorter welded assembly.
The fitting components (spring, bolt, lugs etc) incuded in the full kit could be obtained separately as a sub-kit. The same sub-kit (part number A9918000) is listed for all VINs of Legend and Thunderbird and for all Adventurers up to VIN 71698.
There may have been a separate centre stand and/or fitting components for Adventurers with a VIN higher than 71698. If so, perhaps that's what you have.

Most likely, that is the point where the Adventurer went from the 18" front wheel (96-97) to the 19" front wheel (98 +)

AFAIK they did not make a CenterStand kit for the Later Adventurer.
I have heard of some who successfully fitted a TBird one, but I do not know what modifications were needed to make that work.

Hi,
If you look at this link, it has the 2002 Triumph Accessories brochure: http://www.hermys.com/triumph/pdf/2004/Accessories.pdf
Do a search for part# A9950063 (the centre stand) and you will find it is the same part for both the Thunderbird and Adventurer (however not available for the '99 Adventurer).
The first page of my fitting instructions appears in another post (see http://www.triumphrat.net/hinckley-c...i-mess-up.html) and shows all the parts in the kit - were you missing any?
I also added a further update with the fitting instructions, which may help you? Good luck.
Geoff

The '99 Adventurer has a 19" wheel.
As CafeTBird said those are the ones that don't have a centerstand specified by Triumph.

I know it is not a perfect world, but wouldn't it be nice if all bikes were just fitted with a centerstand at the factory as part of the original setup? Actually, I think this would make it easier for Triumph, as they wouldn't have to stockpile so many centerstands "just in case" an owner wanted to add one someday. They would only need to have some replacement ones in case of damage, and this would be a much smaller inventory to maintain.
