Thunderbird Sport Rear Light

Any ideas for a replacement for the only thing I don't like about my TBS,that damn ugly rear light! (who the hell designed that?)
Any suggestion would be very welcome.

The chrome ones don't look so bad but are unobtainable. You can however have them chromed or to be precise, chrome foiled, as being plastic they cannot be chromed in the usual way. l found a couple of companys that do it, one in Kent cannot rember the name but you can google under chrome foiling.

Lots of options - most go with the classic Lucas taillight from the 60's:

... then there is the limp sausage:

... the bee hive:

the 70's Lucas triumph lights:

or you can just "go your own way" and create something entirely different...

I kinda like this integrated tail light/turn signal. A bonus is that it allows you to relocate the turn signals from the rear fenders (giving you more options for saddlebags).

Also giving you more options for fenders!

That is just a standard Lucas housing. You could drill holes in a standard one and mount your existing taillights that way - may save you a few bucks....

just been out an 'mocked up' a Lucas unit on mine, and you need to be aware that it doesnt quite match the contours of the rear 'guard.. its not far off but just sits on the original mounting points.. so you either have to reshape the 'guard slightly or ignore the couple mill gap.. I'll go with the 2nd option as just had mine repainted..

previously I had an old Moto Guzzi unit bolted on there...

T-Bird Sport rear light

Hey..... thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I think I'll go with the Lucas retro job with a chopped fender.

I just got back from a 6 hour ride on my TBS and I am really impressed
I think it could be the most under rated motorcycle ever!
I sold my 1050 Speed Triple a couple of months ago to buy a new car,I got withdrawal symptoms after a week and had to get another bike!
I couldn't afford another 1050 (which I loved) so went for a T-bird Sport and do you know what.....It's not that far off a Speed Triple!
Okay it's not got that huge power surge that the SP3 has but it handles brilliantly with loads of torque.
But I guess you guys who are T-bird Sport devotees already know that.
Happy riding.

You can just go with a thicker piece of foam at the mounting point, and you'll never know the difference....
