Seat catch positions for solo seat

I've had some replica solo sport seats made but have a query on the seat catch positions.

The seats fit straight onto sport versions and there are the fixings on the later bolt on versions that just need a latch screwed on.
On Earlier models I need to make a plate to move the catch back. I'm presuming that all the keyed seats on the standard Thunderbird are the same up to the change when they fitted the bolt on seats.
Does anyone know any different? or any different types of fixings?

Thanks

I'd say that is correct. The locking seat pin on the regular bird is turned through 180 degrees compared to the TBS, the pin is also a slightly different length, a couple of mm IIRC.

Thanks slinky, when looking at a seat for the TBS the slot in locking pin on the seat would be facing the left when positioned on the bike.
Are you saying that the earlier seats would have the slot facing the right?

Yes that's right- the pin has to be turned 180 degrees.

I found that when I fitted a TBS seat to my normal TB, the latch would not work. I had to use a locking pin from a scrap normal TB seat. There is only a couple mm difference in the length but it makes a difference.

There may be a way around this, I seem to recall other people using washers as spacers.

Yep, I just added about 3mm worth of spacers.

Nice!

So, assuming that your seat fits a 2001 Thunderbird (not Sport) with the two bolts at the rear, how much would it cost with shipping to the US (ZIP 71423, let's say)?

Here ya Go !

These pics are of the optional King Queen seat for the respective bikes.
The seat pan is the same. The other difference is the thicknesses of the rubber bumpers that contact the subframe, I figure that will be pretty easy to figure out. But I could get those dimensions if you want. And the Metal hooks that capture the subframe.

In these Pics the front of the seat is toward the left.

Looks like about 37 mm center to center for the mounting rivets.
The little rectangular plastic pad where the pin sits on the TBird seat is 4mm thick.

Does this mean I could get free shipping to the USA.....

Many Thanks

Thanks Denny, the pictures are really usefull. My early T-bird had allready been modified by a previous owner and came with a sport seat.
I shall sell the seats in 2 versions one will be with the catch in the original position, this will fit all TBS versions and with a seat catch fitted will fit all versions that have the later bolt on seat. (i've found that many different triumph seat cathes are the same)
For the earlier T-Birds I will supply with a catch mounted further forward with the slot on the opposite side. This will enable the original seat to be used as well.
I presume that legends will be the same, unless anyone know different.

Free delivery to the US no problem Denny but I'm afraid the cheapest I can get for packaging is £75!!

Shadowleaves, you can have free packaging but the shipping is £75, it's only insured to £50.
If anyone can find a better quote I will only charge what it costs to send.
Package would be 100x30x30 cms weight 5.5 kilos

I believe if you add a Latch to the Legend, or later TBird the seat Latch will be in the same location as the TBS. I think Mick can confirm or deny that.

Jag,
I was Teasing anyway about the Shipping.
