Luggage Rack for 1999 Legend - Top Box Mounting
I've been looking at many of the threads and general internet searches for luggage racks for the Legend. The previous owner installed the OEM sissybar/luggage rack which I'm not impressed with at all. My Bestem Top Box will not mount to it due to the sissy bar.
I've been looking for a replacement. But all of the racks I've found so far have the grab rail that sticks up at the front. I know the top box would mount to this because I've seen the photos. But, the grab rail does force the top box to the back, too far to the back in my opinion.
The only possible alternative I've found is the the GIVI F1000 Universal Mounting rack. Has anyone mounted this rack to a Legend? Are there other alternatives with no grab rail?

Renntec
Hepko Becker
Sprint Manufacturing
At least one of those will have what you need.

I researched these 3 in detail before posting the original message. All of the luggage racks speced to fit the Legend from these manufactures have the grab rail.

Not totally sure, but I thought Sprintmanufacturing offered a fitting kit for a GIVI rack, presumably the Universal, which is just a flat 'monokey' mounting plate type thing?

I installed a GIVI trunk to a stock Triumph sissy bar. I had to weld a small bracket to the luggage section of the sissy bar. And also an aluminum plate to interface between the bar and the new trunk. I also added 2 support brackets linking the turn signal mounting plates to the sissy bar. Without these extra brackets, the bolts holding the sissy bar to the frame would loosen after 1000 miles or so. Since I added the auxillary brackets the bolts never loosen. I also made brackets to mount 41 liter side cases to my Legend. These came from TourTek and add a large storage capacity to the bike.

I have the original Triumph hand grip and rack on my Legend as well
I looked at the universal GIVI mount in the store yesterday. Yes, it appears that the grab rail pushes the box back... but I think it will be ok if the box is not too big.
I was going to get the box today, but it is cold and rainy
So I'll probably get it tomorrow or on the weekend and let you know.

I got the Givi E450 45 liter topcase. It comes with the universal rack
I'll install and post pictures on Sunday... unless the Sunday police are about.
Not supposed to do anything on Sunday in Germany except go to church, eat, walk, and ride your motorcycle
But I'll do it in the garage when the lady across the street is at church or taking her nap

The universal Givi mount will not work, nor would you want to install it for a couple reasons.
First, the grab rail is curved and the back of the topcase is curved. The result is that you have a ) ( meeting of the grab rail and box.
As a result of the ) ( , the base plate has to be moved further back. That means that the plate barely fits on the rack portion of the motorcycle. In short, th plate will sit on 4 - 5 inches of the rack. When the screws are used to mount the box, there is very little space between the screws and that results in a weak mounting configuaration.
Since the plate is only sitting on about 4 - 5 inches of the rack, most of the box will not be supported. If you were to load too much at the front of the box, the plate or box might break.
Even if you did wanted to accept the risk and mounted the box, the screws that come with the box are too short. You have to get longer screws since the trim of the rack is thicker and the mounting crossbars are set inside and lower than the top of the rack trim.
In addition, if you mount the plate, you no longer have easy access to removed the seat screws in order to check you battery.
I am going to return the box I bought - The mounting is unacceptable to me
Sorry

Hi , I have a Givi fitted to my T Bird with no problems, Fitted the Givi base by making a leather covered lexan plate with holes drilled etc plus a few extra bolts. Very strong. The luggage rack has had some addition supports added.
