Rear Hugger

I'm looking for a rear hugger to fit a Thunderbird. I really want to keep using the stock chainguard. Has anyone manage to source one that fits quite well. I have no problems with adjusting one to fit using the trusty angle grider so long as it looks good at the end.

Put one on from a T300 Daytona once - looked ridiculous.

Here you can see what it looks like. That is Daytona 900 hugger, installed on my previous bike (silver).
Every mounting points fits perfectly except right hand mounting "ear", that need a little modification or simply cut it off.
(sorry, don't have better pics)

Thanks Ronkeli, thats just what I had in mind. Looks great to my eye.
I find that with the solo seat fitted and only running a small undertray I end up with a wet bum.
I'll have a go at sourcing one and then try to modify it to work with the chrome chainguard.

Hi,

I don't know if it will help, but if you went for a T300 Sprint or Trophy (or Trident) hugger then the 'right-hand mounting ear' will already be shaped for an 'ABOVE the swingarm brake "hanger"'.

The Daytona & Speed Triple hugger is designed for a 'BELOW the swingarm brake "hanger"'.

They both incorporate a chainguard, as you know. A final thought is that the later Thunderbirds had a longer swingarm which may affect the mounting.

Good luck,
Geoff

To each his own. To me, it looks out of place.

Fine for a sport bike, mind you...

I've managed to get hold of a hugger from an 01 Trophy, I'm presuming that this is different to ronkeli's daytona hugger. The chain guard just unpops so that you can use the chrome original mudguard,
The fitting on the right hand side doesn't fit so I have removed it.This means I'm relying on the two mounts at the front of the swing arm and the new bracket that fits onto the chain guard. Hopefully this will be strong enough, if not I may have to make up an additional bracket for the right hand side.
I may get it remade in fibreglass to make it more rigid.
Personal taste, but I think it looks far neater with the solo seat than a chopped down mudguard and if you remove the mudguard completly you are just left with an unsightly gaping gap.
