Time to change chain and sprockets - need some advice

It's time to change the chain and sprockets. I've read on here that most of you like an 18 on the front. My dealer recommended a 45 on the back with the 18 front sprocket. I'm looking for more snap off the line and more power. Would this setup do the trick? What are your experiences?

And if this is repetitive please guide me to a thread.

thanks

45/18 = 2.5
43/17 = 2.53 - Stock

The 2.5 or 2.53 means the countershaft turns that many revolutions every time the rear turns one revolution.

The higher the number the more acceleration off the line.
So the 18 - 45 will not give you more off the line.

I have 18 - 45 on both my bikes. I like that except it requires a 116 link chain and that puts the wheel back pretty far in the swingarm, thus increasing the wheelbase a bit (maybe 1/2" - 3/4"). A larger rear would move the wheel forward.

I used the 18 front because I wanted to minimize the wear on the rubber block that protects the swingarm.

If you use an 18 on the front you'll need to go with a 46, 47, or 48 on the rear to get better snap off the line.

PM me your email address and I'll send you a copy of the gearing spreadsheet that will tell you what Revs you'll have in each gear at various speeds. You'll need MS Excel to use it.
