k&n filters and further modification

i'm toying with the idea of putting a k&n filter in the airbox, but have heard it's not much use if i don't change the exhaust as well, or in some way improve air outtake at the other end. does anyone have an opinion on whether filter alone is worth doing? next question is, what kind of pod filters have people used, and what modifications are necessary to make them fit? i saw in the performance sticky that they're a popular substitution. do you ditch the auxillary airbox? buy a new airbox to fit the different shaped filter in?

Over the long haul the K&N will save a few bucks since you can clean and reuse it, while Triumph will sell you a whole new airbox when the filter needs replacing. K&N probably won't change performance too much without changing the mufflers. There are threads on bafflectomies, Triumph Off road pipes and other more free flowing exhausts. The pods replace the airbox, but I have no actual experience with them. HTH

i have just used the same setup as SSLFG in this thread http://www.triumphrat.net/maintenanc...ams-etc-5.html
and have put 3into 1 exhaust on not been on dyno yet but bottom end seems more responsive might be just the note of the pipes to if you are going to stick with the original airbox i would put in a K&N because it is washable if you go with pods dont even bother with trying to get them here ebay us and they are a kit to fit yamaha xs850 same thing
the secondary air box holds the side cover on i used it to mount the zx9 shock air tank in but it would make a good toolbox

cheers. LOVE the toolbox idea. Can see myself spending many fun-filled hours making that little mod. Just to clarify (sorry to sound dumb on this)... Does the K&N filter fit into the original airbox, or does it require a different (K&N) container? I guess I could ask the same question about the pod filters, too.
