Hello, Its been a while.
I recently had my Thunderbird Tacho & Speedo housings rechromed. Cost = £ 28.35 inc p&p & Vat. Very good value when you consider that I was quoted £52.00 EACH for the parts at Triumph dealers. I thought of replacing them with the black plastic ones fitted to later models but they are the same price ! I would have swallowed £52 or even£60.00 for the pair. As it is, somebody else made some money and Triumph got nothing. A simple case of pricing themselves out of the market, and yes I do know about business and prices as I have been running my own business for twenty years.
Believe me, the chrome housings sold by Triumph aren't worth that sort of money as they are made of the cheapest alloy/ monkey metal available. I'm NOT ' having a go ' at Triumph, just trying to help out fellow Triumph ownwers.
On that point, the 'Somebody ' who DID get my money is

Good service at a very competitive price.
May your bits always shine

£52 each is a silly price so your plating price is ok. I was thinking about getting mine done so that will be a good guide price for me.
Triumph are not consistent with their prices. Some are ok but others are a complete rip-off. I've just bought a new DID Gold chain & JT sprockets for £90 with the Triumph kit being about £140; and I don't know what make chain that is. It could be an inferior Regina.
Last year I bought some new tyres and had trouble finding inner tubes. I had to buy them from Triumph at a silly price.

I thought the covers were plastic :???:

The chrome covers on my Kwak are plastic, and the chrome has peeled in places. I priced up new ones @ £36 each and I thought THAT was bad.

Terry.
I bought new tubes & tyres today. See my 'Thunderbird tyres in England' thread to compare prices.

Slinky.
Mine are definitely metal. I think they only produced them for 2 years and then went over to the black plastic ones.
