Good choice ace. You will soon want the off-road pipes though.

Welcome to the TBS family.
I sure hope you have as much fun as I do on mine.

I just drilled out my pipe baffles. I am on a tight budget so the offroad pipes were not an option at this time.
I instead put the money I had toward the flyscreen and solo seat.
I then decided that the turn signals seemed to stick out too far. I took the short stalks from the rear and put them on the front. I then found a bolt that fit the rear and drilled a hole through it for the wires and the rear are not directly against the fender brackets.

Check out my photos in the "Members Maintained Albums" on page #4

I just bought a 2004 TBS sport on Jan 30th, I've got 204 miles on it now. The fit in finish appears to be outstanding.. However, I have a slight oil weep. Upon investigating it further I noticed it was coming from a hose that appears to run out of the oil sensor.. and another tube (can't remember exactly where from)... anyway.. it's tight as a drum.. (nothing on lilly-white paper under it after my paronia got the best of me I layed a 6' 6' white section of paper under it in an attempt to detect any leakage).

SO... I let the bike sit... had a friend of mine sit on it on level ground.. it appears that too much oil is in the machine (no daylight thru the oil sight on level ground).. I will talk to my dealer about this.. (first I will remove any over-fill from the bike, I am 100% confident this is the issue with my TBS). Anyone else out there had overfill off the showroom floor with there bikes?

buy the way, the bike runs flawlessly, smooth, nice sound, nice feel to it, anyone who likes classic bikes will not be dissapointed with the new TBS... Just make certain to check all your fluides when you get her home. (I'm not certain the dealers always know what they are doing when it come to british iron)

On the left side of the bike down by the water pump is a hose that is the crankcase vent. If the fitting is not just right or after many miles, oil can come from there. That hose is connected to the bottom of the airbox for ventilation if the sump is overfilled the excess is pushed up into the airbox where is flows over the the airbox drain hose and back down just behind the swingarm pivot near the chain. Too much oil and it will spill out of the airbox and down the side of the engine on the left side.

Hi cf
As everyone says welcome and enjoy.
My Tbird also had far too much oil after the first service (500 miles) and it started runningdown the side stand. The dealer worked on it under warranty and I haven't had a problem since.
The bike is such good fun to ride I can't get enough riding in.

Safe riding.

Pete

I've got about 1000 miles on my TBS now. At the five-hundered mile service the dealer correctly filled the oil. (checked that as soon as it was returned from service).

However, the oil drain nut was leaking (around it) it was not properly torqued and the surfaces underneath, around, and near the washer and bolt were not properly cleaned before re-assembly. They incorrectly fastened the clamp around the crossover. This caused some spaying of water and carbon when the bike was first started after sitting. Basically, I re-did the 500 mile service myself... I will be having some words with my dealer this saturday.. shame on them.. (although, I must admit I am very detail oriented about the service and maintanance of any piece of steel I plant my A#$ on and drive everyday )

Now, the thing weeps and leaks no oil.. runs like a top as always. I love this bike!

I still don't think many dealers in the states no what to do with these bikes.

That is interesting, as I had exactly the same experience after my TBS had its 500 mile service.

It only took another few # of torque to fix.

Maybe the manual say to torque to a certain amount but this needs to be revised with whatever drain plug washers are being used.

I mentioned this to the senior Triumph tech at our dealership today and I am sure that if it is a procedural thing from the factory that he will pick up on it as he has just purchased a new S3 for his daily ride.
