Polishing off my bike the heat shield on the left muffler came off in my hand. Looks like whatever bracket holds it on just broke. Think this is covered by warranty? It didn't fall off through an accident or misuse, it looks like the part was really thin and broke.

The warranty is 2 years.
Your bike is 4 years old.
My guess would be...No, it is not covered by warranty.

mine fell off ages ago, the one on the rhs is still there. I just polished the bits underneath it, looks just as tidy with itgone. Mines still under warranty for another month. Maybe I can claim something off them.

I went thru 3 of them before I finally just drilled one out and put some little stove bolts in.The heat shields are probably the flimsiest parts on the T-Bird.I tried J&B Cold Weld first, but it didn't hold long.

The ones on my Legend have bolts to hold them on. I believe they came that way.

mine broke off on my 97 tb. I think it's because my heel usually hits it when i put the kick stand down. I bought one from triumph for about $25.00.

Mine is missing on the right- it just decided to fall off one time. The clips are really flimsy.

One of these days I will get around to buying some stainless clamps and will remove the other cover too.

No, the bike is unquestionably under warranty. It was sold as new in late July, 2003, so the warranty runs until late July 2005.

My question was whether this is a kind of part that would be covered.

Martin...

I'd say you can claim that under the warranty.

Incidentally, I went through two in quick succession on the left side but never had a problem with the other one.

When I mounted the left one in a similar manner to the right, I stopped having problems. If they are mounted so that the clips are underneath the exhaust clamp as far as they will go, and then you move the shield and clamp back along the pipe so the shield is snugged up against the silencer so it can't move - then you shouldn't have any more problems.

I think that if the shield can move, then vibration can flex the clips until they fracture.

Cheers
