This may have been posted before..so sorry if it is a repeat. I need to replace my air box due to all the screw holes being busted. I do not want to replace with a factory one, but I would still like to use my side covers. Anyone know of a kit / bracket to replace the air box?

Same problem here. Currently held to together with glue but who knows how long that will last. I will be looking into a solution similar to jasmail except I am considering the removal of the side covers.

Thanks for the post jasmail I'll be watching this one.

Great Bay (see links section) has a TBS-look alike filter upgrade/replacement.

Great Bay's kit is for '98 up, no good for us '97 owners.
Mine has the same problem and would like to find a good fix.

It is not a TBS look alike, it IS a TBS airbox. The reason that it will not work with '98 and earlier bikes is because the early airboxes did not have the bosses to fit the TBS bits. Get a used air box off a later bike and you will be fine.

Another option is to just buy the new airbox from your dealer - they are about 50 bucks. They should be replaced every 25k or so anyway...

There is no AI kit for these T3 classics - they were never popular enough for the aftermarket. If somebody decides to fabricate one, let me know...

You can always go to Jack Lilley and get the performance pods: Jack Lilley

I see that Great Bay also sells the K&N air filter and jet kit. Has anyone installed the TBS airbox and K&N filter kit on an Adventurer? I have read alot about people setting jets but don't have a good idea about doing it. Is rejetting a difficult process after installing K&N filters and jet kit?

I installed these on my '96 T-Bird - which should be basically the same. No big deal to the airbox and jets - once you get the hang of airbox removal. NOW, when you do the Speed Trip cams and igniter... that gets a little dicey (multiple rejets and dynos are usually required).

it's actually quite easy to weld this back together with a heat gun and a screwdriver, the plastic goes soft very easily and is quite workable when it gets that way.

When I get time, I will fabricate the front part of the airbox from aluminium (next to the carbs. It is fairly straightforward) The rear piece would be a lot more difficult though.

The older air filter boxes were much more suceptible to cracking than the newer ones, so I'd say it's worth replacing. The older covers will bolt up quite nicely to the newer filter boxes.

If you attempt to replace the airbox with a different intake setup (like pod filters) you're going to have a whole raft of problems with the jetting and unless you're after more power it's simply not worth the effort.
