Guys,

I need your help. My other bike, a 1984 Honda cb700sc Nighthawk, Is having an issue. When I start, it starts right up and purrs like a kitten. When the bike starts to get hot and the engine is warming up the bike will lose power, backfire, feel like its misfiring and running real rough than slowly die. If I let it cool off for about 10 minutes than restart, its fine until the next time it gets up to that temp. If I try to restart it instantly won't start backfires horribly and chugs. Please help!!!! I bought a new CDI thinking it might be an ignition problem but no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

How many miles on the nighthawk? They were supposed to have self-adjusting valves, but I'm wondering if maybe it's a valve problem. Have you had a compression check? The other thing I'd think would be carburetors.

It sounds a little like vapor lock.

The gas gets hot and evaporats in the carb or lines, your engine runs lean and looses power and fianlly dies.

I'm inclined to agree with Zimtok. I would also consider the fuel filter and/or petcock screen. Has the bike been sitting for any length of time before this problem started? Does it have good gas in it? Does it do this with the petcock in the Reserve postion?

Ok,

When I bought the bike i drained the fuel tank, rinsed it out air dry. Totally rebuilt carb cleaned fuel filter. It doesn't fell like a clogged fuel problem. Vapor lock, I hadn't thought of that. How do i test for that, how do I fix that???

Thanks for the responses guys I appreciate it.

Matt
