Hello all,

Just hit 10k on the adventurer today. Beautiful day on the east coast today 80s and sunny .

Question: Should I be looking for a new chain at 10k?
Question: If so what brand, type do you guys recommend for 2000 triumph adventurer.

Thanks

Matt

I make that decision based on how much adjustment is left in the chain and the condition of the sprockets. If both look fine then let her ride .

I'm at 16,000 miles on my stock chain and although the rear sprocket is showing some wear I figure I'll get about 20,000 out of it before I change the set.

Lubrication is important so I use a Hawke oiler to put 4 or 5 drops of 20W-50 synthetic on the chain every 100 miles or so. More if it's raining.

jimmyj900,

How do you like that Hawk Oiler ? I was looking for reviews of it but didn't find much.

Well, it's a manually triggered system so it only applies oil when I push the button and that's my personal preference.

I don't too much care for the idea of oilers that continually drip. I figure that with modern internally-lubricated roller chains you only need a fairly tiny amount of oil on the chain and most of that is to prevent rust.

Aside from starting the chain oiling argument again, the Hawke works just peachy keen and the whole thing (except for a piece of plastic tubing and the switch wiring) fits on the rear mudguard behind the license plate on my Adventurer.

The only downside to using engine oil in it is that if you use it at speed it will fling oil pretty good -- but then the upside is that you don't get huge globs of goo building up on the sprockets and under the front sprocket cover.
