Gas Cap Solution?

I'm getting tired of that cap only screwing half way down unless I grease it and sing a ^&$%%# lullaby to it. What say I file a tiny bit of thickness off the black plastic threads OR disable the clickety-click feature. What's that clicking all about anyway? Knowing all Triumph riders have forearms like Popeye, did the engineers want to make sure we don't muscle 'em down too tight?

How much paint is left on your threads inside the tank? Is it kind of soft?

If it is you might want to consider carefully removing it. Otherwise your options are likely to be to disable the click as you suggest, try a different cap or go for a Monza.

P.S. The click is there to make sure you put it on tight enough and not too tight - a built in torque wrench if you will

Paint looks plentiful and intact--rare small bubbles. If I can't open the cap clicker mechanism, maybe I'll fill the upper portion of it with Gorilla glue or Lok tight AND file down the black plastic a bit. That cap looks pretty goofy sticking halfway out half the time.

Sounds like your paint may be getting soft to me - if it has then it will also have expanded and be gripping the cap. If it were me I'd be removing the paint inside the threads.
