HID lights, any pitfalls?

So, I'm looking to replace the 7" with a smaller, dual-lamp setup.

Originally I was looking at LSL Mig-Lights, which fit the bill, but are expensive (400-460$USD, depending), and look like they man no longer be produced by LSL (which would be bad for spare parts, if ever needed).

I found a post (not here) where someone considering the LSL's instead used buell headlamps from a thunderbolt; they're dual HID's, in a fairly small side-by-side package. I believe one is hi-beam, and the other is low; I'd prefer if both were running during operation, but I guess this isn't possible with HID.

So now I'm wondering; would I fall into any traps, trying to graft the buell part onto my TB? I believe there are ballasts and such things to consider? The price (at least compared to the LSL's) is right, around 100$ for a decent set on ebay.

To see if I can glean any first-hand info, I'm stopping by a buell dealership this afternoon, but figured someone here might have the skinny, and might know wisdom which I wouldn't get from the parts dept at the Buell shop...

EDIT: Before anyone asks why do this - it's pure aesthetics. I don't like the big headlamp, and I like the front of the speed triple better - and I think I'd like it more if the headlamp pods were even smaller in diameter.

a lot of people say that about the speed triple too, and alot of people modify them that way. Having said that its good to bear in mind why they leave the factory that way... Its because in the EU they legislated agianst it after there were a series of accidents where the dual light setup was cited as being a large contributing factor. What happens is that if people can only see your lights they can assume that instead of you being a bike 20 feet away, you are a car 200 yards away and pull out in front of you.

Just remember; an awful lot of the free advice you will get on forums is worth exactly what you paid for it. There will always be somebody trying to convince you to do something really stupid, just because they did it or want to do it.

I always liked the look of duals, too. Mick's statement about percieved distance sure changes things. I'll be sticking with the single.
