Looking to buy a Thunderbird

I was looking at a Thunderbird today that I am thinking about buying. This would only be my second bike and I am unsure about all the things I should be looking for. I wanted to ask about one thing I definately found. The chain was quite loose. How big of a problem could that be. I know adjusting it won't be a big deal but I am concerned about what damage might have happened while the chain was loose. Any thoughts?

The loose chain could have slapped around and buggered up the rubbing block, or worn unevenly on the sprockets, but that would all be an easy fix. My bigger concern would be a loose chain might be an indication of a general lack of care for the rest of the bike. Here are some questions you should ask:
1-How many miles on it?
2-Have the oil and filter changes been done at the recommended intervals, and are there receipts to prove it?
3- Has it ever been down, even in the garage?
4- Is it stock, or have there been mods to the carbs, airbox or exhaust?
5- Are the coils original?
6- If it is older, has the sprag clutch been replaced?
A test ride would provide you with lots more info, and if you shared that and any additional facts here, any number of folks would certainly chime in, I'm sure.

The chain would be minor regardless of whether it needs to be changed or adjusted.

How does it run? Are there any maintenance records? How many miles? How much does the guy want? What does it's appearance tell you about how it was cared for?
