Hi,
I have a 2003 Thunderbird sport with 2250 miles on the clock, it had less than 1000 on when I bought it.

The gears tend to crunch slightly when changing gear, I've only noticed it over the last four or five hundred miles.
the gearchange seemed really positive when I first bought the bike, have the clutch lever set on position 1, furthest from the bars, there's no drag at all when in gear and the clutch pulled in any ideas guys??

Thanks, Pete. :???:

Other Motorcycle: Can't afford two!
Extra Motorcycle: Three would be insane
You can get a little bit of crunching as the gearbox beds in, but it may be worth changing the fluid/bleeding the system.

Hi Pete.

My gearbox took app. 10000 miles to break in. Now it shifts easy and very precise. A lot of us classic riders find that our machines take a goooood long time to break in overall.

Edit: a little short on the miles in my first posting....

They tend to get a lot smoother by 10,000 miles. Mine is slick & light now.

I have to ask, has it had an oil change? If so, what oil? It makes a big difference.

I'm with the rest of the guys...
My TBS was rather clunky shifting when I got it new but now it has 17,000 plus miles and it shifts a lot smoother.

I still get that anoying false neutral between 5th and 6th from time to time but I attribute that to a weak shift on my part.

Hi Guys,
thanks for the info!
the clutch fluid level seems fine, the oil was changed by the dealers I bought it from who hopefully?? new what they were doing.

What I can't quite understand is it seems to have got slightly worse with time/mileage rather than better, though I guess I'm changing gear faster now I'm more familiar with the bike.
