Well gang welcome me to the club.

I just bought a 2001 T-Bird. I really love the bike, but a few problems there seems to be a small oil leak in the oil pan, near the drain bolt, no manuals and a couple of missing bolts.

What type of oil goes into this bad boy? Any idea where I could pick up a service manual? Any insight or hints is always appreciated.

Thanks Guys.

Welcome Mike, and congratz on the new bike.

Your oil leak could be something as simple as the copper washer on the drain plug being missing or damaged. These bikes are often overfilled too, which leads to an apparent leak. What happens is that excess oil ends up in the airbox. Eventually it drips out and surfaces somewhere around the sprocket cover.

You should stick to synthetic or semi-synthetic oil only. Viscosity depends on your ambient temps, in Florida you would probably want to go with a 15/40 or 15/50

Haynes do a manual for the triples, your local dealer should have one. Or there is the official factory manual, big bucks and not a lot better than the Haynes.

Good choice  and welcome on board :-g

factory recommandation for oil is semi synthetic 10W40, but I guess that you are not facing cold T°, the you could go up to 15W40 or 15W50..

Haynes T3 carb is a good start.. I guess available everywhere in the US

OK guys sorry to sound like an idiot, but how much oil is too much oil. I didn't get any manuals with this bike and I'm feeling my way through it. I see the oil view port on the side of the engine. How much oil should be showing or is there some other way to gauge the amout of oil in the bike? I also take it the fill port is that large round slotted opening to the right hand side of the tranny directly above the foot peg.

Again thanks for the help.
