Back in the saddle!

Picked up a '99 T-Bird Monday. 7500 mi. & in like new condition. Nice addition in the garage to the S3. Anybody got a set of TORS they'd like to unload? Also would like to switch the stock airbox covers to the TBS "cheese graters". Suspension mods?--especially for 2-up.
Thanks

For the rear, the ZX shocks are excellent. I have a ZX9R unit (94-97, remote res. model) on mine, both compression & rebound adjustment. (Others have used ZX7 & ZX11 shocks to good effect.) You will find the ZX spring too weak for 2-up riding. I've just swapped in the old stock unit spring with great results. You won't believe how much difference the ZX shock makes.

I have Racetech cartridge emulators in the forks which give both linearity & adjustability to compression damping. I disagree with Racetech's suggestion of keeping 10W oil. !5W provides much better rebound damping, with the emulator valves then set to 1 1/2 turns +/- a quarter turn depending on spring rate/riding style etc. Stock springs are a little soft for 2-up (& def. the Hagon Progressives I have are), so either tweak up the emulator damping a bit or fit higher rate springs. IMO, changing the oil level to adjust the air gap as a 'spring' gives either a highly non-linear result only near minimum fork extension or no effect at all. Ok on smooth tarmac but u/s on anything else.

Congratulations on the T-Bird. The TBS style airbox kit is listed at Great Bay Motorcycles. It's expensive at $100, Part# GBABK. As far as the TORS good luck finding used. You could drill the stock ones out like many of us have. Not a hard project to do. Take the silencers off, center punch both ends of the baffle, then use a metal hole saw. Size is your preference, I used a 7/8 inch and it sounds great. Enjoy the Bird.

Thanks for the info. Time to get out the tools & checkbook! Also, I want to put TBS bars on. Any changes needed to hoses/lines?
